I was just able to fix an important broken link on my website. I thought
I would mention that it consists of 27 webpages that were originally
published 10 Apr 2002 as a special section of the Times Union newspaper.
Below are the address and a list of the titles of the articles. There is
a lot of worthwhile history in these articles. (Beverwijck was an early
name for Albany.)

In an 1893 diary that I am preparing to put online, the lady who wrote
the diary was sick and a friend or relative came over and made a salt
pie. "Mrs. Goldener made a salt pie for dinner".
What is a salt pie?
I used Google and found this statement (made while the writer was talking
about something else). "In fact, you can't remember ever being quite
this thirsty. It's as if you just baked and devoured a salt pie (the
recipe's sinfully simple: a pound of Morton's and just enough flaky crust
to cover it)

A WILL is a great research tool, to explain who is related to who.
http://www.sampubco.com/wills/ny/nynewyork06.htm
This will take you to New York Wills, and you may go from there to chose other locations. The actual WILL document must be purchased, but the index is for FREE. You can see the names, and from the locations, you can make a judgement as to IF that person may be related to your research.

Is anyone familiar with the Ketelhuyn/Ketel family of Albany and Schnectady? I am trying to straighten out the parentage of Margarita KETELUYN, wife of Dirk Joachim VAN DER HEYDEN (b.1725).
Dirk VDH was the son of Joachim VDH (1700-1746) and Anna KETELHUYN (1696-1726). Anna was the eldest dau. of Daniel KETELHUYN & Deborah VIELE.
Dirk married in 1754 at Albany to Margarita KETELHUYN of Schachticoke.
Some sources have Margarita listed as Margarita KETELHUYN, b. 1724, youngest dau. of Daniel KETELHUYN &

Elizabeth Roberts MOORE was born in Akron, Ohio on April 16, 1881
according to the Indexed Birth of Records for Akron, Ohio. Parents were
Reese ROBERTS and Hannah Harris ROBERTS.
She married John M Moore, Jr. and at some point in time after 1911 moved

co-owner in Akron, in 1910-1911, ROBERTS & MOORE, grocers, at 984 East

in the Akron City Directory.

Some of the Brouwers are descended through Pieter , who is also a son of
Adam. My ancestresss Maria married Jacob Clute. She is a daughter of Pieter
and a Bovy male married another Brouwer child..Uldrick is probably a son or
grandson of Pieter.. Pieters wife was Peternelle Klein , daughter of
Ulderick Klein.

A member of a mailing list to which I subscribe expressed some
frustration with websites that force a person to look through the whole

some of that frustration. With over 1200 links, it is so large that even
I don't know half of what is there.
A "What's New" webpage was suggested. I had thought about having a
"What's New" page for Albany & Eastern New York Genealogy. However, it
wouldn't work very well for my site, perhaps because it

Thank you for the link. That makes much more sense than what I had found. There is no clue on that
website as to why they were called salt pies, unfortunately. In 1893, a time without refrigeration other
than boxes that had chunks of ice in them, maybe salted meat and fish were fairly common. Maybe that kind
of meat was what was routinely used in these pies.

With the permission of the Times Union, the article which I mentioned a
few days ago to the Albany and Rensselaer mailing lists is now online. I
realize that those list members who are interested have already looked at
the article on the TU site. Since it was only at that location for a
week, should you have a reason to view the information in the future, it
will be available. This email is also being sent to the Columbia Co.

Are there any researchers working on these names, or recognise them?
I believe, but may be wrong, that the BROWER families in Albany as of the 1790 census are descended from Matthys Brouwer, s/o of Adam, and also from Willem Brouwer, s/o of Adam.
