Our family history, revolving around the New York City "children's almshouse" in operation on Blackwell's Island, Queens County and Randall's Island between 1832 and 1876, is done and may be found at http://home.att.net/~sharcraig/wort1.htm. Many members of this list contributed invaluable assistance to our research over the past several years, made difficult by the loss or destruction of all records of this facility. Thanks to all!

14. Re: [Bklyn] Re: Queens list unwanted [0.975171]
Could be blamed on your email server's spam filters. Not too long ago I suddenly stopped receiving this list's mail but continued to receive Rootsweb Queens and others. I contacted my mail server and their spam filtering considered Bklyn's as spam. At the time I did notice that I was receiving NO spam to speak of. Now that I have had my host remove the spam filters not only do I receive all the email I want I also receive tons of spam which I aggressively delete directly from my mail box. A trade off for

17. RE School districts in Brooklyn [0.975171]
Hi. Does anyone know how I could find out what school my cousins went to in Brooklyn if they lived at 1618 W. 11th St. in 1933-34. They would have been high school age at the time. They are from a branch of the PHILLIPS (formerly FILIPOWSKI) family from Suwalki which I have not been able to contact even though there were 7 children and their cousins lived right across the street. The parents didn't get along (after 7 kids?) and the mom wouldn't let them have anything to do with the cousins. I'm hoping may

20. Re: [Bklyn] Something for Thanksgiving [0.975171]
I grew up in Glendale, and I remember going around at Thanksgiving, asking "anything for Thanksgiving". We would go to homes and stores and mostly received apples, (some with nickles or pennies wrapped in wax paper stuck in them) oranges, nuts and candy. For Halloween, it was chalk and as Rita said the boys would fill stockings with chalk and hit you with it. That was rough on those navy blue parochial school uniforms. This was in late 1940's to the early 1950's. My sister and I would dunk for apples

Dear Ancestors, I'm just writing this note to tell you all that everything is okay, and your descendents are living the lives you wanted for them. I know it must have been so difficult to leave your homes in Baden, Hesse-Cassell, Westfalen, Poland, London, Ballydehob (Cork). I don't believe any of you ever saw your parents again after setting foot on the ship that brought you to the shores of New York. I know some of you left graves of your children. I can't even begin to fathom your emotions. I know
