Hello Everyone,
I am furiously trying again to locate the data on may maternal grandparents.
Would someone please look up the 1910 and 1920 censuses for this ancestor?
Thank you in advance!
Here's who I am looking for:
John Conway
844 85th St.
Woodhaven, L.I., NY
The censuses should also list his wife, Anna, and a daughter, Annamae R.
Conway, age 13.
Again, thank you so much!
Marie

I stopped there yesterday. Luckily someone was going out as it is not open on
Mondays. The receptionist says the library will be open in March 2005. They
had no head librarian/archivist until just recently, so .... Help is on the

Kingsbridge NY, but I can tell you it is in the Bronx nr 230th St and

years later (1940's). According to Mapquest that address still exists.

Could be blamed on your email server's spam filters. Not too long ago I
suddenly stopped receiving this list's mail but continued to receive
Rootsweb Queens and others. I contacted my mail server and their spam
filtering considered Bklyn's as spam. At the time I did notice that I was
receiving NO spam to speak of. Now that I have had my host remove the
spam filters not only do I receive all the email I want I also receive
tons of spam which I aggressively delete directly from my mail box.

Hi. Does anyone know how I could find out what school my cousins went to
in Brooklyn if they lived at 1618 W. 11th St. in 1933-34. They would have
been high school age at the time. They are from a branch of the PHILLIPS
(formerly FILIPOWSKI) family from Suwalki which I have not been able to
contact even though there were 7 children and their cousins lived right
across the street. The parents didn't get along (after 7 kids?) and the mom
wouldn't let them have anything to do with the cousins. I'm hoping may

I grew up in Glendale, and I remember going around at Thanksgiving, asking
"anything for Thanksgiving". We would go to homes and stores and mostly
received apples, (some with nickles or pennies wrapped in wax paper stuck in
them) oranges, nuts and candy. For Halloween, it was chalk and as Rita said
the boys would fill stockings with chalk and hit you with it. That was rough
on those navy blue parochial school uniforms. This was in late 1940's to the
early 1950's. My sister and I would dunk for apples

Dear Ancestors,
I'm just writing this note to tell you all that everything is okay, and your descendents are living the lives you wanted for them.
I know it must have been so difficult to leave your homes in Baden, Hesse-Cassell, Westfalen, Poland, London, Ballydehob (Cork). I don't believe any of you ever saw your parents again after setting foot on the ship that brought you to the shores of New York.
I know some of you left graves of your children. I can't even begin to fathom your emotions.
I know
I hope no one was offended I mentioned Christmas memories and never included Chanukah or any other winter holiday.
Of course all celebrations should be included.
I'm hoping it gives us (me) a better understanding of life in Brooklyn in the "good old days."
