Right now I have got my Nolans back to my GGGrandfather Edmund Nolan
born abt. 1794 in Ireland and died in Auburn,NY (Cayuga Co.) on
8/19/1887. He was married to Honora Walsh. They had 3 children,
Elizabeth Nolan Bresnahan, James Nolan(My GGrandfather) and Ellen Nolan
Campion. The children were born in Ireland and all came to the USA.
Where they came from in Ireland and when they came are still unanswered.
Any help would be appreciated.

I was born and raised in Auburn and moved when I got married. I have
been searching for info on my mother-in-law's father John C. Husk. She
was Mira Husk Wenner. She had a half-sister, Lulu Dawson (who married
Roy Ashpole, they lived in Moravia) from another wife. I know he was
married three or four times and spent most of his life in Auburn and
later Moravia and just can't understand why I can't find out something
about him. I remember meeting him once. Mira's mother was Emma
Browne. She married J

I recently discovered that an ancestor, Moses SNOW, is buried in "Sempronius Cemetery". He was a Revolutionary War veteran and spent the last years of his life in Sempronius.
Is this cemetery still in existence? I will be in the area in a couple of weeks and would like to visit it if it is still intact.

Jeanne,
I know a little about the Cayuga Home for Children as my grandfather
was the director there in the 1940s and 50's, and my father was one of the
orphans, so I've heard stories about the Cayuga Home all my life. I don't
think the children there were ever part of the orphan train, although I can't
be positive. I do know that there is an excellent copy of a report that a
college student did on the facility that is in the Cayuga County Historian's
office in Auburn. I think it's probably a
I am not sure what all they have down there at the Community College. I was
there to do research from local Auburn Papers. I could not believe the
amount of filing cabinets of Microfilms they had. They also have machines
to look at the films and capable of making copies. There is plenty of help
there to show you where to look and how to run the machines.
You should check it out.

Chris,
St. Joseph Cem. is a beautiful well kept Catholic Cemetery just
outside the City of Auburn. The first place I think of to check for a
paper would be the Cayuga Co. Historians Office in Auburn. Their
Telephone number is 315 253 1300.
Good Luck, Jerry
Hello everyone,
I have been working on transcribing the 1860 census of Cayuga Co., NY and the link to it is on the Cayuga Co. website under census.
Just so everyone knows, this is going to be a full county transcription when completed. I'm working on it as quickly as possible but it's still going to take a while to finish. Currently transcribed are the towns of Brutus, Locke, and Summerhill. I'm now working on Ira.
The alphabetical index will tell you what page(s) your surname is listed on. The top o

My cousin and I used to play at the orphanage, when we could get away with
it, in the 1940's. She lived at 22 Bradford Street, just around the corner
from the orphanage, and when I visited with my family we would always sneak
down there if we could. It was like another world. We were only 7 or 8 at
the time and "orphan" didn't mean much to us but the atmosphere seemed very
"different" to us. I remember an old piano that looked as if it had been
used as a jungle gym. I would love to see a picture
