Did you look for a Town of Morsston??
It's been 3 1/2 years since I moved from Sullivan County, NY to Tenn but I'm
pretty sure there is a Town of Morrston. It's somewhere near Roscoe. I'm not
certain, but if you can find or acquire a Sullivan County map it will be on
there. You could look on Sullivan Counties web page they might have a way to
ask for one. I know you can pick them up at almost any convience store in
Sullivan County and at the Government Center in Monticello has them. Hope
this helps.

Poorhouse Story
Few of us would like to learn that our ancestors lived at the poorhouse.
However, not everyone was affluent and, at times, some people found
themselves dependent on the charity of the community. Poorhouses housed
the homeless and destitute, many of whom may have been forced from their
homes by natural disaster or calamity. They also accommodated the sick,
mentally handicapped, orphans, seasonal migrant workers, unwed mothers,
and other unfortunate individuals. An excellent Web resource for
SAMPUBCO has indexed the Delaware Co. wills for 1797 to 1916. See:
http://www.sampubco.com/ny/newyork.htm#delaware
There is no Sidney in the index. They are still in the process of indexing
Otsego Co. and are only up to 1836. You can order copies of the probate
papers from Sampubco or you can order the microfilm through any LDS FHC.

Hi Don
I don't know which mailing list you are on?
I couldn't reply personally because I didn't want to open the email.
But, I got a strange email from you with an attachment.
You may need "Norton".

I have information that indicates that Daniel Pierce is buried in a cemetery "3 miles north of Walton". Can anyone help me figure out what cemetery this might be.

It's in the Town of Litchfield near the SW corner of Herkimer Co. I found
it on the Street Atlas USA CD-ROM from DeLorme. It's also in DeLorme's
printed "New York State Atlas & Gazetteer".

To; All,
In Delhi last week at the courthouse I got an "official" map of Delaware
County. On printed side was a list of 19 "TOWNS". On the map side under
"LEGENDS" was listed "TOWNSHIP BOUNDARIES" showing what boundary lines look
like on map.
My dictionary says a town is "a thickly populated area usually smaller than
a city and larger than a village". And a township is "a division of a county".
I do not expect people in New York State to change a practice that is over
200 years old. Let's keep it qu
Hi!
I am still looking for information on my Fullers and Whites in
Delaware Co. My White's name was Joseph (L.) A. White. He was born
in about 1855 (On Feb. 4, 1886 he was 31.) in Jersey City, NJ. He
was a barber.
I need to know when he moved to Delaware County (most likely in
Deposit, Delaware, NY). I also need to know from what town he moved.
He might not have moved form Jersey City. Any information on Joseph
(L.) A. White (born abt. 1855) will be highly appreciated.

Does anyone know exactly when Burhans, Lawrence & Co was operating under
that name in Roxbury?
The name is painted on one wall of the freight room of the Roxbury U&D
depot, probably to indicate that's where freight for them was placed when
unloaded from the local train, and we're trying to date it exactly.
Also: There are lots of other names and initials painted all over the
inside of the freight room, and we can't make most of them out, nor do they

New York has towns and it has villages. Villages are incorporated parts
of towns. A town can have several villages (though in Walton's case,
there is only the one village). In most instances, the town clerk and
the village clerk both have registrar functions. If the birth or death
took place in the village, the village clerk will have the certificate.
If it took place outside the village, the certificate will be in the
town. Good luck.

Dear List--
I receive the Delaware Message list in Digest mode--so just received it today--here
is a little more information that I have regarding messages #'s 2, 3, 4, and 5:
Harmanus Dumond and his wife Janneke Brink Dumond were neighbors to my ancestor.
Harmanus & Janneke's daughter, Nelly Dumond, married Philip Yaple. Her first

I recently requested several vital records for 1900 to 1910 from Theresa C. Valada, Registrar, Town of Walton. After getting everything notarized and sending $11.00/ request, she informed me that the Town of Walton had none of the records in their files.
She went on to suggest that I could try the "Village Clerk" to see if they had any of the records. Can anyone tell me the difference between the "Registrar for the Town of Walton" and the "Village Clerk" and if the "Village Clerk" would be likely to have r
Patrick,
Per your special query to the Delaware Co. website, I have edited the message a little and also copied the mailing list this time, perhaps to show even the most ardent reseacher can get tripped up.
I remembered reading about an Tuscarora village near Margaretville in the old books and I found and copied below from Munsell's in case you had not found that. The name is different and therefore you may be looking for a different village. Let me know if this answers the question.
