Looking for information on Mae Smith. On SS application, lists mother as Katherine O'Rourke, father Samuel Conway. Born in Dublin, Ireland April 13, 1905 or 1910.
Mother (Katherine) married William Burkert (sic) at some point. Katherine & William believed to be buried somewhere in Queens.
Mae's obituary states she came to NY in 1916, but may have come via Michigan (listed on marriage certificate as Birthplace, also lists her maiden name as Burkert).

My ancestorys, the Hunolds and McFeeleys lived on Van Brunt Street. It was a solidly middle class neighborhood in a major port area, due to the unique "hook" of land it was named for. Unfortunately, it deteriorated into a crime and drug ridden urban blight in the 60s and is pretty much the same today, although there is interest in re-gentrifying the neighborhood. The reason why it's taken so long is because the BQE (Brooklyn-Queens Expressway) built in the early 60s cuts it off from the rest of Brooklyn n

Would you know or know how one could find out where in Brooklyn, NY was located US Post Office "Station C" about 1910? I have copies of several postcards from REID ancestors written to their EBA relatives and the postmark is "Brooklyn Station C 1910." I do not have an address for this REID family; and if I could learn where Station C was located in Brooklyn, then maybe I could locate the family on the census for 1910. Hi, I have an "Elizabeth M. Miles" born in Brooklyn in 1855. I have lot of information on the Brooklyn family she married into, but virtually nothing on Elizabeth herself, except for the marriage record from the York Street Methodist Episocopal Church in 1873. If you're interested discussing, let me know.

Hi,
I have enjoyed reading the emails posted to this list with great
interest. I am fairly new to this list so I thought I would introduce
myself. My name is Donna Colonel/Donell and I live part of the year in

living and gone on) in the five bourghs area. My family came to the USA in
the 1850s from Kloster Eberbach, Germany. Of course my family surname is
COLONEL. All of the COLONELs stayed in New York except for my gggrandfather

Shirley,
Thank you so much for responding to my inquiry. Unfortunately, I am pretty certain that this is not
"my" Emma. My Emma Johanns was born in Germany and came to America at the age of 17 and settled in
Brooklyn on September 28, 1893. I am not certain when she married Fred Rosener or where he may have
been born. I am also pretty certain that "Fred" was his proper name. It is more likely that she
would appear on the 1900 census as Rosener, as her two children [that I know of] were born in 1900

Hi
Suggest that you send Holy Cross in Brooklyn a photocopy of that death
cert. That way they can look up by date of burial..
As I recall ... the files at Holy Cross are not alphabetized. They were
logged in day by day.
Also, if there's a more common spelling of that complex surname ... ask
them to search under that as well. Who knows how it may have been mangled
by the clerk that day.
But, the death cert. should do the trick.
Good luck!
