I went to highschool in Oyster Bay and there was an Alan Coombs in my
class. There was an older brother but I don't remember his name. THe
name. The family owned a store Coombs and Oliver, I think it was
electrical or hardware. Remsen was also a well known name in the area
and in Jericho. Hope it helps.
Dear Barbara:
There are a few cemeteries in the Glen Cove area that would
have been active in 1923:
East Hillside Cemetery (non denominational)
Matinecock Friends Burying Ground (Quaker)
Roslyn Cemetery (non denominational but owned by the Presb.
Church)
Locust Valley Cemetery
St. Patrick's RC Cemetery
But, before you go querying each one, I suggest you try to
locate the exact place of death by either using the NY State
Index at the NYC Nara or by requesting the information from
the NY State Archives.

Dear Nassau-Rootsers, etc.,
For a detailed comparison between living conditions now and living conditions
in much earlier times, I recommend an article, "Material Progress Over the
Past Millennium" by E. Calvin Beisner in the November issue of THE FREEMAN
(published by the Foundation for Economic Education, FEE, located in the
Hamlet of Irvington-on-the-Hudson, Town of Greenburg, Westchester County, New

Dear Nassau-Rooters, etc.,
I recently posted an e-Mail to "NYC-ROOTS-L@rootsweb.com" concerning "A Visit
>From St. Nicholas" written in 1822 by Clement Clarke Moore, a scholar in
Hebrew and the son of an Episcopal bishop. Moore's family had come to
America in 1750 from Chelsea, England, and established a farm named Chelsea
in the area of Manhattan still known by that name.
Following my posting, Beth A. Scott (bethscot@mindspring.com) added:

Thanks to Howie Lyhte, a participant at "BronxRoots-L@rootsweb.com", the

It seems at first blush that the maps, etc. are in Adobe Acrobat (*.pdf)
format.
Dear Nassau-Rootsers, etc.,
Thus far, 4 Nassau-Rootsers (and 42 others) have requested a copy of the 1999
Long Island Population Survey Report to be mailed to them and their

I am looking for information on John O. BENNETT and Margaret BENNETT (John's
wife - BENNETT is her maiden name as reported by her son on his marriage
license). Their son, Henry BENNETT was born in Roslyn sometime between 1888
and 1891 (his tombstone does not agree with other documents). Henry's
marriage certificate also said that they were born in America.
I am looking for any information on this family. Please respond to me
directly.
Thanks,

Hi, Jean-
It does not appear that this is a RootsWeb mailing list.

Hello List,
Some time ago I was on the LIROOTERS thru rootsweb, but you don't subscribe
in the usual way. Is there anyone on this list who can help me get there?
Thank You
Jean

I need to know what cemetery`s are in or around Glen Cove. My gmother,
Lillian ROMANSKI, nee BARRETT, died in 1923 and was buried in Glen Cove, or
so the story goes. However, there is no D. cert. in Glen Cove.
Appreciate any help,
