Hi folks:
Yesterday I had a lengthly talk with my cousin Betty (JOHNSON) HESSLIN.
She is some 7 years (71) older than I, and grew up in North Bellmore,
still living on the "Island".
The area in, 1904, which my g-grandfather purchased property (about 20
acres) was located on Columbus Ave, between Jerusalem Ave, to the south &
Jersualem ROAD to the north. Further it was east of New Bridge Rd and
west of Bellmore ROAD.
In 1906 ajoining properties were owned by, Mrs. Mary REID, Mrs. Esther

Doris,
Have you tried www.Ancestry.com?
The area of Ozone Park that you mentioned would have been farms in 1938
or considered country. After WWII it built up.
You can also try the New York Public Library in Jamaica, Queens. They have
a Long Island Room that may have directories for that year.
Good Luck,
Stacey
Hi All,
As I was going through the copies I made of the South Side Observer;
I noticed that I had a copy of the Polling Places in the Town of
Hempstead.
As today is Election Day I thought it would be fun to post where
our ancestors went to vote on this day.

Hello!
I am searching for Harry Lancaster Wilcox ... still!! ... I have new
information that he is buried in the Long Island National Cemetery along
with his wife, Mae Wescott Wilcox.
Harry was born in 1897 and died in 1947.
Mae was born in 1890 and died in 1961.
I have pictures of them in New Hyde Park in 1946.
Now, I realize I am assuming, but I am searching for this family in the
Long Island / New Hyde Park area in the 1940's.
Can anyone help?! ....
On 11/04/2000 (8:00:36 AM EST), as part of an eMail, David J Lindstedt
(semperfidave@juno.com) writes,
"During WW2, my grandmother would wrap a dollar or two in a note along
with blue or red ration coupons and send my cousin, Peter JOHNSON and I
to the north end of Lindstedt Road and right next door to Peter's home,
where we would walk through a farm field to go to the butcher shop in
Hicksville."
The butcher shop may NOT have been in Hicksville, even though it had a
"Hicksville, NY" mailing address.
