I've "rescued" a very old bible which belongs to the GARLOCK and LEWIS
Families of New York. The information contained in the bible is as follows:
GARLOCK FAMILY BIBLE
The GARLOCK Family
David GARLOCK lived in Syracuse, NY, married Sarah, had 8 children and in
later years lived on a farm north of Newark, NY. Before they died they
lived in the Village of Newark where Mrs. Sarah GARLOCK died 23 Sept 1879.
Children:
1-Sarah Jane GARLOCK b. 25 Jan 1829, married Gideon Lyman LEWIS on 28 Sept
1847. Mr.
I am looking for Sharvogel. He might of arrived into the US about 1905 and in 1906 his wife Bertha and son Franz (Frank) came to US through Ellis Island. I am trying to find out his name. He left his wife and son a few years later never divorcing if they did that. Bertha lived with a Kohler and took his name, never wanting to talk about Mr. Scharvogel. So we know nothing. Could someone Help or give me some ideas on how to find out?
Thanks

Are there directories of landowners and business owners? What directories
are you referring to?

According to the material I picked up at the NYC Municipal Archives last
month, they have Manhattan marriages 6/1847-1848, 7/1853-1937. The other
boroughs start later although each has some "pre-consolidation town and
village vital records" from 1847-1849 or 1851.
I haven't looked for early marriage records myself, but if they are like the
early birth records, there is no index. Each birth record is a 1-line
ledger entry. They're alphabetical by surname for each year and there
aren't very many. So scan
Is there usually both a civil and a church record? I have civil record on
a protestant/catholic marriage of a couple living at 544 W 33rd St--it was a
boarding house. Would anyone recommend a church to check? The bride was
catholic.

The directories that I use are on AncestryPlus - you must have a
subscription to Ancestry.com to access these. The directories (from what I
see) will include anyone who is employed, women who are widowed, churches,
businesses, etc. These directories include all states and different years.

Hi folks
I would like to prove the family story that my husbands grandfather
or great grandfather owned a piece of property that Madison Square
Garden 3 was built on in 1925. I assume he owned it in 1924. I don't
know if it was a small lot & have no idea of the address. I hope I can
tract it down by their surname. Does anyone have any suggestions how to
go about this? I would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks
June
