The person who sent information about this will to the list recently wrote to me today to say that the will was probated 26 May 1866. George had written the will 17 May 1862.

Starting today I will be putting the 1880 federal census for
Lansingburgh Village on line. It was totally transcribed by Bob
McConihe who deserves a bunch of thanks. There are 1,478 individuals
mentioned.
Like the Town of Lansingburgh census, this was extremely hard to read.
In fact, some surnames have ?? as both Bob nor I could not figure them
out. Reasons include bad shape of census with gobs of ink in places,
enumerator could not spell surnames and just bad handwriting.
You will find the census on t

Today I discovered a copy of a will written by a resident of West Troy and
Watervliet. I thought I would post some of the information in case someone
is interested, although it should be on file in Troy too.
Deceased: George H. Lawrence
Wife: Harriet E. Lawrence
Daughter Ella L. Lawrence
Witnesses: Daniel E. Stewart of West Troy, George H. Dyer of West Troy,
Joseph M. Lawrence of Watervliet,
I have been rather fascinated with the pronuciation of Dutch and German languages as a clue when trying to determine that two people with different looking names are really the same person. For example, if one of the names is pronounced in Dutch and the other in English, they may sound alike. I can't pronounce accurate Dutch, but it doesn't make any difference. The majority of 17-19th century English speaking people probably coudn't pronounce it either. The Dutch sounds are much different from what I ca

READ THIS WHOLE EMAIL BEFORE USING THE SEARCH ENGINE.
I am both happy and reluctant to announce that there is now a search engine on my website. It took 23 months to make the decision to add it.
A few months after I went online, someone wrote to say that I should have a search engine because they were too busy to look at every link which I had on the homepage. That conversation helped me decide NOT to install one. This person had the wrong impression about what a search engine does, and I'm sure that a

As many of you know I am planning a trip back East and leaving here
Tuesday. I will be in the Albany/Troy area for two weeks starting 8/18
and have mentioned I would love for those in the area who are on the
Rensselaer list to meet one another and me.
We have decided to do that on Tuesday, August 20th at 6pm at the Troy
Pub and Brewery. I would really appreciate it if you can let me know
between now and then if you plan to come. If we get more than 8 or 10,
we will have to make arrangements for tables.
I don't know if you remember back when I said I would be up in the
Albany/Troy area in August. Well, my plans are made and there was good
interest in those in the area meeting for social/drinks/dinner at a
local place and getting to match the faces with the names.
The plans are to meet at the Troy Brewery and Pub at 6pm either on
Tuesday, Aug 20th or Wed, the 21st. I can get directions on the list
after we decide what day. Please email me off the list which day would
be best so we can all put it on our
Does anyone have access to the 1875 Troy census? Is there an index?
If so, I would like a lookup for the names Ancona, Hyams, and Cody.

At the beginning of the year, I ordered the 1930 census for Rensselaer
County (4 cds) from HeritageQuest. They had such a backorder of
requests that they are just now getting to fill their orders. My last
day home, Tuesday, I receive a partial order, 2 cds which are films 1638
and 1639.
As I have time, I looking at the cds, not at the census per se, but what
is on each cd. I know you can find the enumerator district for each
film on line but I would like info like the city/town/village and/or

I am looking for a death date for Ina May Dunham-Street. She would have died

I may have made this request before but I am not sure so bear with me.
My gggranndparents, James Dwyer Ward & Mary Leonard were married around Troy or Lansingboro circa 1855's. She may have been the daughter of Dr. Frederick Leonard but may have been one of the other Mary or Maria Leonards. He was an Irish immigrant. How would I track down a record of their marriage? Were civil filings obligatory at that time? Would there possibly be a newspaper notice?
Thanks in advance,
