Hi everyone,
I have abstracted the 1850 census for the Town of Howard, Steuben Co. and now
I am looking for information on any or all of those people to include in a
book. I have taken information from wills, cemetery records, bible records
and family records, etc. trying to add to the families of 1850.
If anyone out there are researching the people of the Town of Howard and
would like their families included in the book, I would love to hear from
you. Just be sure your family was living there in
I am tracing the surname of Engel, Marck or Mark, and Peck. They settled in
Wayland, NY about 1850. The web site of Old St. Joseph's Cemetery and the
New St. Joseph's Cemetery named a few of the Engel family. I am searching
for living descendant's as well as my ancestors. Can anyone help me? Kay
As I believe that I am a descendant of this family, I would do just about
anything to get a copy of this book.

I'm currently in Bath doing some research and found a burial reference
for one relative that cited the County Home Cemetery. He died in 1894,
but there were other burials listed up through at least the 1930s that
had taken place there as well. The question is, what became of the
county home and how can I find the cemetery, assuming it even still
exists? I'm told the home, at least as a functioning entity, is no
longer around.

Listers,
I have a dentist, Parmenas F. Olney (g-grandfather) from Prattsburg, Steuben county. He was born in 1821 and practiced as a dentist in Prattsburg. Does anyone know where the nearest dental schools would have been about 1840's? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks Nina Olney

I am searching for Taylor. I have a Robert Taylor married to a Mercy Norton.
I believe (no proof) that Robeert was born in Scotland. In one census it
states he was born in Ireland and Mercy was born in Vermont.
I found in family Tree maker that Mercy was born in Howard NY. I do not
believe this to be true. As the family's information says Robert born in
Scotland and came USA
There is a set of books (around 4 volumes as I recall) that list the War of
1812 soldiers. They should be in any library with a large genealogical
collection. You can also send to the National Archives and get the military
service record for Amos Smith. There might, of course, have been more than
one soldier from NY named Amos Smith. Abstracts of 1812 pension files are
also available on microfilm.

Hi,
My server sold CWIX to PRODIGY.. I had to send a subscribe message to be
able to post from my address, but I can't unsubscribe my old address. Can
you tell me how I can fix this? I am on several rootsweb accounts and I am
getting double messages of this one still. Thank you for any assistance.

Judy,
Have you checked the book "Index of Awards Soldiers of The War of 1812" by
the New York Adjutant General's Office? My ancestor Amaziah Westcott is in
it and he died down in Crawford County, PA.
I found it out in the Denver Public Library several years ago when we lived
out there. In the introduction there is a letter printed from Francis J.
Higgins Brigadier General, NYARNC The Adjutant General dated March, 1969.
Your ancestor may have applied for a payment and if so he would be listed in

Good Morning List,
I'm wondering if anyone doing COOK research has run across a CYNTHIA COOK
who was married to JOHN GRANGER in STEUBEN COUNTY 1830's - 1850's. She was
his second wife. They had 3 -4 daughters and lived in the area around

Many thanks,

Hello...
I am new to this list but have visited the Steuben website frequently. I
have yet to find any information regarding Francisco's.
I am researching James Mathias Francisco b.28Sept1809 died24Feb1876 and
his wife Lucinda Walford. They had one daughter I know of, Thankful
Francisco b.12Sept1844 in North Cohocton. Thankful eventually moved to
Yates County and married Porter Augustus Chrysler.
Her father shows on some records as being "Mat". I'm trying to locate
information on him, his

Thanks to all for the replies concerning the location of the county home
cemetery. Even after checking with Marion in the county historian's
office and reading all the suggestions from you all, I still wasn't able
to find any physical evidence of the cemetery. It's either too
overgrown or built up. We can all be thankful that there are good
records in the county historian's office regarding the burials there.
Without those records I never would have even known there was such a
place. Kudos to Marion for h

This may have already been answered recently, but can someone please
tell me the hours the Steuben county historical society is open? I'm
planning a trip there next week and would hate to miss it due to
unfortunate scheduling. Thanks.
