17. Index to Irish Immigrants in NB in 1851 Census - Toner [1]
This book would probably have been more accurately called "Index to IRISH-SURNAMED Immigrants..." I have an Irish ancestor, Jane Nixon, who m. Francis Pelkey, a Frenchman. In the 1851 census they are both indicated as being French! I think a lot of Irish women who m. men who were not from Ireland got overlooked. Jane remains a stray, city of origin unknown; parentage, unknown; link to other Nixons of Lower Brighton, unknown; burial place, unknown. Isn't genealogy fun? -- pshaw -- Polly Shaw, Ass

However, distinct groups came at specific periods of time. I found Peter Murphy's books, "Poor Ignorant Children" and "Together in Exile" were very informative -- I had to get them through our local university library, as they are not widely available. I have negatives of similar size and a six or seven year old flat bed scanner. After some trial and error, I found that putting the negative on the scanner and covering it with two sheets of printer paper allowed the scanner to work. Then I used my equally elderly enhancing software to reverse the black and white. I did a little touching up here and there and the scanned image was as good as I remember the original print to be. You may have to do some trial and error work to get the right number o

Dear Judy; Have you tried any of your local photo shops? Many of the small independent professional photo and camera stores may be able to help you to develop them for you. However that could be expensive. On the other hand I have a EPSON 1660 Photo scanner with a built-in 35mm negative and slide adapter. I tried to manipulate larger sizes with varying results. The EPSON people have a film adapter (B81317) that I purchased for $99.00 US that can take up to 4"X5" negatives and it works great. However some
