Hello everyone,
I am new to the list and am interested to know if there is a list or
index for English and Irish tailors from the end of the 1700's to 1850.
I am looking for a regimental tailor in the British Army (a few of them)
and suspect that their families were tailors before the joined the Army.
I have no regiment to check records of parishes so I am trying to do it
the other way around. Both families eventually came to Australia and set
up tailoring businesses with one lasting into the 1940's.
Hi,
I'm working with an 1860 Census from Virginia and need help with some
occupations. There are two whose occupation is listed as "silent merchant."
Does anyone know what this was?
Also, I have one listed as an "osler" and one as a "wanton." Unfortunately,
it is possible that I'm reading these two wrong as they are just a little
difficult to accurately decipher. Has anyone heard about either of these -
or something that might look similar?
Thanks for any information.

I have seen WRIGHT in several lists of old-time
occupations, but I have not seen MILL WRIGHT.
Can anyone tell me where I can find a job description
for a MILL WRIGHT in the lumber industry?
I am primarily interested in Oregon in 1900.
I am secondarily interested in Wisconsin
between 1855 and 1920.
Thank you very much.
