IMPORTANT info for genealogists -- cost of Ohio birth & death certificates may go from $1 to $17. Your immediate action is necessary if we are to have any chance of stopping this increase. Email Governor Taft to stop the 1700% price increase for birth & death certificates.
If Governor Taft signs the bill, then you should immediately contact your state senators and representatives and ask that they sponsor legislation to roll back the price increase and reinstate uncertified copies at reduced cost.

Bare with me since I'm just beginning my quest into this area of research.
I'm to the point in my genealogy that I'm beginning to research some of the
things my ancestors were a part of during their lives.
Recently I was sent a picture of tombstone which was my great-grandfather.
The stone read the following:

I haven't found anything through google on Company E 10. I would like to
verify my ancestors contribution to this war. Where do I begin? William wa

I am searching for more information concerning a "William COLLOPY" who
enlisted into the US Army on
3 January 1879 in Cincinnati Ohio at age of 21 6/12. He enlisted for a 5
year period.
Born in Philadelphia Pennsylvania in 1858. (his birth year is about 1857 on
the enlistment but I know for sure it is 1858)
His enlistment is in the 19th Infantry Company A
The remarks on the US Army Register of Enlistments 1798-1914 include:

Have you tried to get his pension files from the National Archives? That
costs some but they will send you all the paperwork they have that
emanated from his application for a pension. I have gotten that
information on 2 of my ancestors and it has quite a bit of information.
Since you know his unit, etc. that will facilitate their finding the
file. It may take a bit but is worth it.

Sharon,
The fort is probably Ft. Garland, Colorado. You might want to visit
their sites at http://www.legendsofamerica.com/co-fortgarland.html or
http://www.coloradohistory.org/hist_sites/ft_Garland/ft_garland.htm and
try to contact them. The old restoration forts in the west have
available varying amounts of history and documents depending on the
interest of the staff and amount of financing available. These websites
appears more geared to tourism than history, but its worth a try.

I am looking for information on Charles .Campbell, private in Co H.7th Regiment, Ohio Infantry. I have his burial site in Rock Creek, Ashtabula and date of death 17 March 1899. He was born in 1844. I have a Pension file showing a widow Mary A. Campbell.

Thank you to the few people who responded with very helpful information.
With your help and the help of a few from another list I have enough pieces to
start checking into.
Despite the one person from this list who decided to be rude and demanding
with negative criticism about offering help and then continued to hound me
through IM's until I finally blocked him.
Thank you
