(I have the original hand written pages.) James Paxton added a few pages about his brother, Andrew H. Paxton in the "addition" of 1871. XX "He (Andrew H. Paxton) was one of the early pioneers in the anti Slavery cause, having been chosen secretary of the first anti Slavery Society ever formed in Savannah. I
2. [OHASHLAN-L] A record of the births-SLOANE [1]
My SLOANES came to Richland form Jefferson County in 1827 Some of them remained in Richland and my gggrandfather was part of Ashland County when it was formed from Richland County. I just found out last week that my grandfather Ellsey Sloane was living in Crestline after his marriage to Clara Bowen of Port Huron, Michigan. I realized this when I found the obituary of his eldest son, Fred, who died at age 16 when he was caught between two train cars while doing some coupling. His obituary states that h

5. RE: [OHASHLAN-L] Help with census [1]
Hi Taj, This is probably about one of a million responses you will receive. The last three columns refer respectively to the birthplace of the person, his/her father, and his/her mother. My interpretation is that Ire is Ireland. Thus, Frank Conroy was born in Ireland and his wife was born in Ohio. The 1880 census is the first one that listed the birthplace of parents. It is the only record I have for the birthplace of my GG grandfather's parents, whose names I still do not know. Paul > -----Original Me
6. [OHASHLAN-L] Re: OHASHLAN-D Digest V00 #34 [1]
Penny, Look on a road atlas for northern Ohio. Rowsburg is 6 miles east of exit 186 Interstate 71 - on US 250. So it is about 10-12 miles east of Ashland. 7. [OHASHLAN-L] Smith/Schaffer [1]
Hi, Could someone tell me if there is or was in the mid 1800s a town by the name of Rowsburg in Ashland Co. Looking for the place of marriage of William H. Smith to Mary Ann Shaffer. They were married by H. T. Strauch, Minister of the Gospel in what looks like Rowsburg. The record was filed in Ashland Co. Probate Court July 11th, 1867. I am hoping to find some church records on this and or the birth of several of their children. Thanks for your time Penny in Wash. State
8. [OHASHLAN-L] address [1]
The Ashland Press dated 1 Feb. 1899 ran the obit for my gr. gr. grandmother, Sarah Baker Wireman and stated her home was on Broad St. Ashland, OH. How can I obtain the exact number address and perhaps a history of the house. Thank you. Madeleine M. Whitney
9. Re: [OHASHLAN-L] Help with census [1]
Taj, The reason the children have IRE after their names is that their father was born in Ireland. The first column heading there is Name, then age, then relationship to head of household, next is occupation. The 5th column is birthplace, the next is birthplace of father and the last is birthplace of mother. Vicki I'm new to this list. I just found my ggrandfather living in Ashland Co. Ohio and got a census lookup for 1880 that shows the following: Burton, John 47 head railroad
