Can anyone tell me if there is a Beech Grove Cemetery in Glouster, OH. If so, does anyone have a reading. I am looking for a Gail Woodyard.

Thanks so much to everyone who responded to my desire for the Athens Atlas
Book. I've ordered a copy from the OU Press...before I found out that Athens
Genealogical Society sold them too...and it should arrive soon. Thanks
everyone for helping me out there! It's nice to work and share info with such
a helpful group of people! Julie North
Hello all! I'm not transcribing this week on the Athens County Infirmary
because the laptop I'd borrowed from my girlfriend, had to be temporarily
returned. I'll be back to transcribing next week.
In the mean time, I've started that addition to the Transcription
called "Understanding the Athens County Infirmary Register & Terminology."
The page can be accesses from the same page you use to view the indexes and
registers:

Thanks to a tip from Jo Parsons, I contacted an Athens Funeral Home and found
out the following information. If you have death certificates, they often say
the undertaker, and not the funeral home. To help you match some of that up:
STOUT was an undertaker in Nelsonville, Athens County, Ohio for the Souers-
Cardaras Funeral Home
C. S. NEWSOM was an undertaker at a now nonexistent funeral home, "Newsom
Funeral Home." The man I spoke to said he did not know what had become of the
records from that Fune

In an effort to help everyone understand the Athens County Infirmary, it's
purpose, history and records, I have obtained permission from Ohio University
Press to reproduce the page dealing with the Infirmary, on my web site, along
with the transcription. It includes pictures of the Old Infirmary, before it
was destroyed by fire in 1903 (The exact building the transcription inmates
were in), as well as the New building (which will be coming in the latter of
Volume 2), as well as a picture of the three
The State Library of Ohio is a member of Ohio Link a
consortium of libraries that one can borrow books
from. They list two copies of the book by Bush
available. They have an online catalog and a number of
locations where the book can be picked up.

You may notice that the index has been reviewed and adjusted. MANY
names on the index were in question due to the illegible handwriting on some
of them. I posted the names as best I could, and have compared the index to
the names found on the PAGES themselves, and made correction as well as
additions. When two spelling w

I have a John J. DAVIS who died on 4/5/1916 in Athens County. He is buried in
Augustine Cemetery in Athens, and his death certificate states the undertaker
was C. S. NEWSOM, Athens, Ohio.
Can anyone tell me where this Newsom worked...which funeral home?
Also, does anyone know if the funeral home records might have more
info than the death certificate?
The doctor that took care of him for the 30 days of illness with
trichinosis prior to his death was D. H. Biddle of Athens. I've nev
In an old family photo of my DAVIS line.(photo between 1880-1900 I'd say,
based on ages of children)...one of the handwritten captions says the house
is either the "old Weekley house" or on "Weekley hill". I do not have the
picture right in front of me at the moment, but am interested in any
information on this house/hill and it's general or specific location. Julie

My DAVIS's were apparently living there, and family photos show the house on
the hill with them.

Dear Athens List,
I know most of you have been at this longer than me - and have GREAT IDEAS with those "brick walls," so here is my dilemma:
Abraham Bryson & Nancy McKee Bryson are my g-g-g-great grandparents and I have been searching high and low for their parents, siblings, and cousins.
I am now looking at any and hopefully all peripheral Bryson/Brison families that lived close to my grandparents. David Bryson according to the History of Hocking Valley moved to Amesville, OH area in 1816 from Bedford
PAges 0-233 of Volume ONe are now online at org.bizland.com/athenscounty.htm
You'll notice that some of the page numbers next to a name in the index will
be italisized...this means that there is no "admitting" information, only
dismissal notes. I'd strongly encourage anyone who has one of these names to
go through the index with a fine toothed comb and look for soundex style
names in an effort to find the admittance entry (if one exists). Because the
recorders had gotten poor about recording the index
Hey, thanks Sandi & Judi

Thanks Diana for the info. I'll see if I can come up with anything.
I did find out after a series of phone calls, the following information about
Funeral homes:
A Funeral home is NOT required to keep or maintain ANY information at all!
THere is no governing agency or requirements for the information that they
need to gather either. It is up to each individual funeral home to decide
what, if any, information they gather and/or keep. They can ever throw the
data away the very next day, or at any time th

Pages 0-180 are online at http://oorg.bizland.com/athenscounty.htm With a TON
of new people added to the index, as well as some new surnames. This
particular section of the Register is extremely difficult to read, due to
both the light copy on microfilm as well as the bad handwriting and frequent
misspellings. The index names were not much help in deciphering some of the
page written names, but here is a list of NEW surnames and/or possiblities.
Good Luck! Julie
