I am writing a letter to a "cousin" in St. Marys, whom I have not met. I
have his snail mail address, minus the zipcode. I notice there are at least
2 zipcodes for St. Marys, and don't know which one to use. He lives on W.
South St. Does anyone know if it is 45885 or 45895????? Thank you,
Phyllis
Thanks, Elaine, for your help on when Auglaize Co. was formed.
I've just begun researching my Lenhart family (beyond what I've been
able to find from relatives, funeral cards, etc.), who lived mostly in
the Rhine, Botkins, Port Jefferson, Freyburg area since at least 1850.
I've found that they spread into the Wapakoneta, St. Mary's,
Roundhead, etc., and I plan on visiting Roundhead soon, with friends
who were raised there. Is Roundhead in Auglaize Co.?

Elaine,
Thank you for such an informative post. I learned things I didn't even
know and I live in Auglaize County!!!
I'd like to add that in the genealogy section of the library, there are
microfilm copies of probate records (marriages, births and deaths) as well
as copies of estates, wills & civil cases - books 1 & 2.
Microfilm copies of the old newspapers of Auglaize county are also
available as well as the original bound newspapers (ask at the desk for the
year you want). The society has also placed
I've got a handful of Frederick Co., VA Marriages, Richards - Rudolph,
Withers - Wyndham from a research request to Henry Wolary's home
county. The Handley Library staffer who responded wrote that there is
no family file on the Wolarys, nor was she able to locate info on Elizabeth
Rogers' family.
Marriage listing: Woolery or Woolary [can't make out the e or a ] Henry
and Elizabeth Rogers 17 October 1811, min- Ely Hinkle.
I'm going to contact Wilmer Kerns who researched the "Back Creek Families."

LaVerne,
The Cemetery-Photos list has been discussing this subject for some time now.
I believe there is a way to access the old e-mails to the list and read what
other people have had to say. The list is: CEMETERY-PHOTOS-L@ Rootsweb.com.
To subscribe send e-mail to: CEMETERY-PHOTOS-L-Request@Rootsweb.com.

Hi Members,
This morning in the Orange County, California Register Newspaper Helloes
had an article regarding the use of baking soda on the gravestones so
the names and dates would bring out the writing.
The following is what she had to say........
To help bring out writing on old gravestones, use plain baking soda.
Just rub a handful over the lettering, and it should make the letters
and the numbers more visible when photographed.
The baking soda can be brushed off, and it is safe for the environment.
I have the national archives roll numbers. I don't know if FHC's can
get these and, in any case, mine doesn't know how to order film. The
1850 mortality schedule is on T1159 rolls 14-15, 1860 is rolls 29-30
and 1870 is rolls 102-104. If anyone can get these I would also
appreciate a lookup of Nancy Downing (or Downey) on the 1860 schedule.
I also have the roll numbers for various agricultural, manufacturing
and other non-population census schedules if anyone wants them.
I will post anything I hear.

I am looking for information on Samuel Hatfield b. ca
1784 in MD. Married to Ary Ann. Children Richard,
William, Martin, Elizabeth, Samuel, John D., Jacob,
Sarah and Henry.
According to the Indiana 1850 census Samuel was in
Ohio in 1830 when John D. was born, also Sarah is
listed as being born in Ohio in 1836.
I found a land record where a Samuel Hatfield bought
160 acres in Auglaize Co. on 4-15-1827, which would be
the right time frame, I just don't know if this is my
Samuel.
Any help on this would be
Elaine and other Wolarys,
Thanks Elaine! As a follow-up: I have an item from a letter from Rosemary Woolery
[c 1992] - Probate Records Case # 291, whereby Elizabeth Wolary is appointed
guardian of Elizabet Wolary the lunatic in 1850. If she was committed to the county
home, the records were destroyed in a fire. In 1851, John Woolery, Thomas Iames,
and Josiah Walker were appointed guardians of the estate of Elizabeth Woolery,
deceased. Speculation in the letter is that both references are to the same per
Hi All,
Does anyone here on the list know the hours the Wapok Library is open during
the week? And is it open on Saturday? If it makes a difference I plan to
visit there in October.
Thanks in advance for any help.

FYI: Auglaize Co. is NOT included on Broderbund's (FTM) CD#164 "Mortality
Index: US 1850-1880" ..... hence, tho I searched for James Botkin, he is
not listed.

Hi List,
The following is four generations of a family who lived in Auglaize County
for about 40 years in the mid 1800's. If you have any interest in this
family please join in any conversations you want. This information may not
be correct so if you want to make or suggest changes please free to do so.
If you do make changes and you copy and paste these back to the list, please

Hi Dan,
Thank you so much for letting us know that someone has the index to the
Tam Cemetery. I am interested in the AUFDERHAAR and HUNEFELD
[HUENEFELD] families.
Aufderhaar went to Cincinnati, after his first wife died, to marry
Sophia Elizabeth HUNEFELD and brought her back to Auglaize County. What
part I do not know.
I do understand that AUFDERHAAR had children and needed a wife to help
with the family.
If anyone has information about this, please give me an e-mail for I
would appreciate it.

Virginia,
In any county in Ohio you will find deeds in the Recorders Office; and
births, deaths, marriage and estates in the Probate Court. In Auglaize
deeds are from 1848 to the present. The original deed books are
available as well as microfilm. There are grantor and grantee indexes
by townships. The cost is $1.00 per page. The Probate Court records
are the original and cost $.50 per page for uncertified copies. There
is just a tiny space to stand and do your research in the Probate
office.

Hi Elaine and Terry,
I was just looking at the SSDI on rootsweb and find another spelling that
could be a possibility for our WOOLARY family name. WHOOLERY! There seems
to be quite a few of these in PA, MD and some in OH and other states.
There is also a great deal of genealogy information on the WOOLERY family of
Lawrence WOOLERY family from Rotterdam, Holland who came to this country and
settled in PA. Do you think there is probably a connection there somewhere?
