Bill,
What do you want me to look in? I have several resources for Belmont Co.
If it is the book "History of Belmont & Jefferson Cos., OH," the only Hoges I
have indexed in my bios. index is George W. Hoge who was in St. Clai

WILSON LEMMON is a native of Lancaster Co., PA and is a son of John and Latitia
LEMMON. He was born on the 15th of December, 1809, and came to Belmont Co.
in 1842.
Can anyone tell me the address to post messages for the Wheeling Area Genealogical Society? Something like W-WAGS, I think, but it was more than that and I I can't find an old letter to copy. And Rootsweb has changed their setup at the Mail Lists so that I can no longer find it--aarrghh!!
Thanks for any help, Nancy
Thank you, Janet, for adding that clarification about my only picking
up a portion of the graves at some of the cemeteries - while I've made
that comment to individuals, I should have stressed that point
publicly. I'd hate to have anyone give up on a cemetery just because We
didn't list their kin. We're strictly amateurs. Plus, we covered 10
cemeteries in 3 days (2 of them rainy), so it was difficult, at best, to
be thorough.
As a second caution, I'll add that just like everyone else, we're only
human.
I found that a relative had been committed to a mental hospital also...the
information was in his file at the courthouse in his home county...Had gone
searching for a will and a possible divorce and found that..
I would think you would find it in the file with his will or probate
records...
Also searched another Iowa county and found a book that listed all the
commitments in that county from 1870 or so on...
What county in Iowa???
I am in Iowa...

Hi Pam -
I would love to hear more on this one as well - I hope I am not getting too
greedy. Thank you so much for the offer.

It should be noted that the 1880 Watkins "History of Belmont and Jefferson Cos." is available on Family Tree Maker CD 450, along with numerous other OH histories. It retails for $50. This is a more inexpensive method to obtain the same
information and a lot quicker to obtain than waiting for them to xerox the book. I have obtained hard copies from Higginson and they are fair reproductions, but take a considerable time to acquire. I also have CD 450 and it works well.

Does anyone in this area have access to old issues of the Martins Ferry
Times-Leader that could do a lookup for me? Am interested in the year maybe
late 1950 or 1951 into early 1952. Don't know if the Barnesville Enterprise
would have carried the story or if it existed in that year. Am interested in
a court case that was tried at the Belmont County Court House.
Thanks to all for your consideration.

Do you know if this book contains any information about the Powell family?
I'm looking for Richard, Joshua, Barnabas, William and Joseph Powell all from

Hi,
In the book "Belmont County Before 1830" there is mention of marriage bonds
as well as marriage records. How do I get a record of these marriage bonds?
Who would have this information at the courthouse? I am interested in the
marriage bonds of Joseph Powel and Mary Brook and Joshua Powel and Sarah Way
both marriages in 1808. If there are marriage bonds as the book states, then
bondsmen or a bondsman should be listed on each marriage bond, isn't that
right?
Any information about these marriage bon
I have not been able to find the final resting places of a set of
gr-gr-gr-grandparents who died in the Belmont/Jefferson area ca. the
mid-1800s. I thought perhaps someone on these lists would know of a small
family plot on a farm somewhere in one of the counties. I have exhausted
every cemetery list that I can locate. Any leads would be appreciated.
I am seeking the burials info for George MURDOCK, son of Arthur and unk. wife,
both of Ireland/NI. George was b. abroad also ca. 1810. He married Sar

Here is my advice, based on years of research at the National Archives:
1. Before you go, make a written list of what you want to look for --
census years for which state/counties and which families, military service
records, pensions, passenger lists, whatever. Prioritize. If you are
doing 1880 or later census
Hello, list. I found one of my ancestors listed in Ohio Military Men, 1917-1918 on the ancestry.com website. I was wondering if any of you know if there is a way that I can get W.W.I pension or service records. Thanks, Laura

Lorraine,
I did do this one, but neglected to send it to the list, so here it is again.
From "History of Belmont & Jefferson Cos., OH" by J. A. Caldwell, pub. 1880. pg. 389
JOHN BAKER was born 7 Nov 1829 in Colerain Twp., Belmont Co. He is a son of Joseph
BAKER and a grandson of John
Regarding your search of DUNFEE/MEEKS, have you come across a Nancy J. Dunfee
(b abt 1830, Belmont Co) m. Alfred Doty (b abt 1830 maybe PA) on 10 Nov 1852?
Or a James Doty m. Millie Dunfee? Or the whereabouts of a "Dunfee Cemetery"
in Jacobsburg, Belmont Co where my great-grandfather John Henry Doty was
buried? Could this be a family cemetery on the family property? I am
researching DOTY -- cannot find info on Alfred. Thank you.

Would anyone out there possibly have a Monroe County 1840 census with a
breakdown of the numbers of individuals in each age group? The reel of
microfilm that arrived today, was an index only - with just page and twsp.
If available, I really would appreciate knowing about the two families
listed below:
Thomas Jorden/an, pg 25 Green Twsp
James Cofland/Copland, pg 10 Jackson Twsp.
Thanks in advance for any help that might be coming this way.
