Jack,
All the book "Ohio Cemeteries" has to say is that it is located in Kirkwood
Twp. and 2 miles
from Salem Church. Cemetery is listed on the WPA list...that is where this
book got the info.
Called "Old Egypt."

Please note that some birth records are in the cities of Bellaire and
Martins Ferry and not at the Courthouse. I found my father's birth
certificate only in Bellaire and he was born in 1910. I have cousins born
in Bellaire in the 40s and their birth records are only at the Health
Department in Bellaire so if they are not at the Courthouse they may be in
one of the City Health Departments. Also the same is true of death
certificates. They may be at the County Health Department which is not at
the Courtho
Hi Howard,
I see where you are searching MYERS. I am also searching MYERS. My father,
Wm. Kenneth MYERS was born in Martins Ferry, Belmont County, Ohio on March
31, 1904.
I have his death certificate (died in Wash. DC) and I sent to the vital
records in Ohio for his birth certificate, but received my check back and a
letter stating that births there are only registered starting December 20th,
1908. They tell me that I may be able to find a record of some kind at the
Probate Court of the county were the

Does anyone have access to Rose Hill Cemetary in Bellaire who can do a lookup for me? I'm looking for Irene CRAWFORD who died around 1930.
Thank you.

For those of you looking for information on Alexander Cemetery I wanted to pass along the following information. I emailed the Belmont County engineer and received the following information.
They have an 1868 map that doesn't even show Alexander Cemetery but does show a 275 acre plot of land belonging to an S. Alexander.
There is a plat deed that does show the cemetery but no names at the Engineer's office. The belmont county recorder does have a plat map of Alexanders with 5 names on it. They are as f

Hi everyone.
I have met many wonderful people on this list that have been doing research longer than I, so I am hoping that even though this is not a "Belmont" related question, that some generous soul with help me out here and share some ideas and general knowledge.
I have a simple question and I'm not sure where to turn. So here goes:
My Maternal grandmother was born to a Polish immigrant - I believe his name was Frank Grohoski (sp?), and her mother's name was Ellen?????? However, her father apparently
Here is a web site that I heard of on another mail list.

Hi,
My Powells came from Virginia. The earliest I have is gggg grandfather Joseph
Powel born abt. 1780 in Virginia. He came to Belmont County, Ohio sometime
between 1802 and 1808. According to family legend his wife was Mary Ward but
I have found the marriage of Joseph Powel and Mary Brook 9 February 1808 by
Joseph Martin.
I am researching the possibility that Joseph was the son of Richard and Sarah
Powel from Shenandoah County, Virginia and that his brothers may have been
Abner, Barnabas, and Joshua
Am forwarding this from my Brewer list. Can someone help her in some way?

Thanks Martha: I know for a fact he died on 12/10/1908 I have Card from the Belmont City Lodge No. 221
I.O.O.F. that states that he died on that date. Could it be possible that he died like in the Wheeling
Hospital or while he was away?? He is in the Warrington Cemetery with a Blank head stone.
( the card was printed in 1908)
In all the flurry of messages that have been on the list lately about this book, I haven't seen any mention of how much it costs, for those rare people among us who might actually want to BUY a copy. Please advise.
As an author of over 30 volumes in the genealogical area myself, I have been appalled to read message after message in this feeding frenzy, of people who want to find out what's in the book for free. This is a perfect example of how the internet is driving the publishers of genealogical
Hi,
Could you [lease tell me if the birth of HENRY CLAY LINDSEY is in the
book? I am desperately trying to find out who HENRY'S parents were! Any info
would be greatly appreciated. I have found other Lindseys but not him .Thank

Speaking of Black Holes - sorry if anyone gets this twice, I sent it
this morning, it is in my Sent file, but I never got it back and it is
not in the archives. So I am trying again.

Looking for Judy Warth, she posted surnames Davis and Warth on the
Martins Ferry Area Historical Society webpage. Her email address
doesn't work and I would like to get in touch with her. I think we both
have info that each other is looking for! If you see this or if anyone
knows of her, please contact me, Cindy, at purpleoc@dmv.com Thank you!
I would appreciate a list of the books that Ken McFarland has written.
If he doesn't want to post it to the list - how about sending it to those
who request it?

I would like to know where Weeks or maybe called Bridgeport Cemetery is
located. I think my Mother and Grandparents are buried there. I have been
gone from that area some 60 years and I don't have much info to go on. No
living relatives there either. If someone would be kind enough to look up
an address and maybe a phone number for that Cemetery, I would appreciate
it.
Thanks for all you help.

Please don't give up on looking for cemetaries in Belmont Co., OH. I
searched for a couple of years for the Old Dutch Cemetery and it was in
someones front-yard way off the beaten track. The Alexander Cemetery may be
in the same situation. Have you tried the Historical Societies of Belmont
Co. I know one is called Cumberland something and their records are at the
St. Clairsville Library and the other one has loads of records at the
Barnesville Library.
A great big THANK YOU to those of you who have already responded with so
many helpful hints!! (I am really grateful to your help considering it was
non-Belmont related!) You all are so great!!
Thanks!

PS. Still looking for info on William Henry Brewer born to Platoff Z. and
Lucy A. (Porterfield) Brewer Dec 4, 1873. Need his siblings! I am pretty
sure that he was first born as his parents were married Nov.18, 1872. Had
