The Cumberland Trail Genealogical Society is currently working on a new book that will list every cemetery in Belmont County and the directions to them. We have had articles in our local newspapers requesting anyone knowing of the location of cemeteries having at least one person and those that they may know of that are not already listed or may be in out of the way places. We are making a page each on that will give information about the cemtery, exact directions to the cemetery. It will not list everyone

I am new to the list. I am looking for Johnstons and Mckirahan in the Belmont- Bellaire are in the 1880s I have a John William Johnston (my grandfather) who was born 24 Aug 1885 in Bellaire. His father was George Samuel, mother Annie Mckirahan. George's' father was John I am told and Johns father was Robert. I don't have dates on George, John and Robert. I got it in 1990 from the Belmont Co., IL Genealogical Society, 361 S. Chestnut, Barnsville, OH 43713. ( You better ask the list about whether this is a current address). I think I heard it isn't available right now although they are planning to reprint it again. Maybe if you show interest it will help. My great-great grandfather John F. Gallagher became a naturalized citizen 22 October 1860 at a Probate Court held at the Probate Office in St. Clairesville, Belmont county OH. I've written to the Probate Court asking for his Declaration of Intent, their response is that they don't have these records. Can somebody tell me where these records are? Thanks so much. Does anyone know anything of a Sarah HIRST? She is buried at Union Cemetery in St. Clairsville, according to published cemetery records, and is "with" Ruth NEWLIN. Ruth's dates are listed as 1818-1900, but none are given for Sarah. I believe Sarah may be the daughter of my great great grandmother Ruth Frame NEWLIN and husband Elisha Phipps NEWLIN, originally of Chester County, Pa. Elisha's mother was a Sarah. Their daughter Ellen Eunice Price, b. 28 AUG 1850, married George Washington Jorden. George & Eunice moved to KS after the Civil War & are buried there. They were my g-grandparents.
