1. Clinton County Courthouse [1]
Does anyone have any experience with requesting records from the Clinton courthouse? I requested a marriage certificate from 1868 and have not received a response. I enclosed a small check for copying costs and a self-addressed stamped envelope. The request was sent back in July, so I was wondering how long this should normally take. Thanks, Kathy
2. Re: Clinton Co. Courthouse [1]
I have made several trips to the courthouse and everyone was so helpful. Wilmington is a beautiful city and the courthouse is spectactular!! I may be prejudice to Clinton Co. because I have so many relatives who lived and are buried there. Marilyn Reeves Doles Celebrate Ohio 1803---2003
3. Re: Quaker Migration, DIXON, RUBY [1]
Marsha, In 1920 there is a 8-9 yr old Lester Dixon in the Clinton Co. Children's Home. I have wondered if he was the last child born to Leslie and Ida. My mother thinks she remembers hearing the name "Lester" but can't recall in what context. The 1910 census shows other Dixons in Union Twp, apparently not far from Leslie and Ida. There is a Dixon, William? (hard to read) and Mary who are old enough to be Leslie's parents; the husband's father was born in NC and his mother in MD. Of course, this will all

Teddy, There is a Quaker list, QUAKER-Roots-L@rootsweb.com . I belong to this and find it very helpful. You will find many people here that have information on the Dixon family. I have the CD and it has helped me a lot. I also have two of the Quaker Indiana Abstracts books where I may be able to find some info for. Dixon is a very a very prominent name in Quaker history in NC and I am sure if you ask some of your questions on the Quaker list you will get answers. Laura in NC ----- Original Messa

You can access The Quaker encyclpedia of genealogy online with a paid subscription to genealogy.com 's paid library subscription. I highly reccomend trying this for a month! If you don't like it you are only out $9.99. I usually hate the sites that charge a fee to access information but I will no longer live without this one. I stumbled on family books that I had no idea even existed with information that would have taken me months to dig up. They don't just have indexes to books there, but entire books

I'd be interested in knowing that as well. We're looking for our connection from Ohio to Ind in the Pearson line. They also were Quakers. 8. Re: Migration routes [1]
this link has a bit of information about migration from N.Carolina to Ohio. A few days ago I came across another site that had much more information, including maps of common migration routes. I am trying to find it again. If and when I do I will post it. http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~maggieoh/quaker.html good luck, Mary ----- Original Message ----- From: To: Sent: Thursday, October 25, 2001 4:51 PM Subject: Migration routes > > Many of my ancestors - Moore, P

I can't let this slam against Ohio go unanswered. Montgomery County where I live and Van Wert County in which I was born and visit the courthouses regularly are very helpful in searching for and receiving copies of records. If we want to continue receiving support from county courthouses, we should not circulate such ill-advised comments. Please be courteous. As for Kathy, you should follow up your request with a copy of your original, and ask for the status. If you don't receive a satisfactory response
11. Migration [1]
Madeleine, I agree with the others about the Quaker connection. Lamb's were part of the Quakers that came from Cane Creek Monthly Meeting in Cane Creek, NC. There was a hugh migration that had to do with both the slavery issue and the promise of land. Many came from Cane Creek to Clinton/Greene Counties in OH to Richmond, Wayne Co., IN. You can check out the Indiana Genweb site, Wayne Co, Richmond, and Earlham College. Earlham has many records for the IN Quakers. Rootsweb also has a Quaker site. Lin

13. Migration routes [1]
Many of my ancestors - Moore, Pearson, Lamb - migrated to Clinton/Greene COs. OH from North Carolina. Can anyone tell me what would attract them? Initially, I thought other family members but have been unable to prove that. This would be early 1800s. Thank you. Madeleine M. Whitley
14. Re: Migration routes [1]
Have you checked to see if your ancestors were quakers? Mine were and they went from NC to PA to Ohio and then to Indiana and so on. It is a thought. Maybe there was a wagon trail or something. I am guessing of course just trying to throw out some ideas for you. Susan

I also have many relatives born and raised there...many Quaker...some not....I was born and raised in Ohio. Thanks to all who replied! Don, I'll follow up my original request as suggested and if I don't have any luck will contact you directly. I should mention that the check I enclosed with the request hasn't been cashed, so it's quite possible that the request got lost or misplaced. Thanks again. 18. Quaker Migration, DIXON, RUBY [1]
Linda Fullerton wrote me that she has a Quaker CD and she found many DIXONs and a few RUBYs in Indiana and NC, but she was leaving right away to go out of town for 2 wks. Does anyone else have this CD? I am looking for the family of Leslie DIXON, b. 18 Feb 1880. I find him listed as a boarder in the household of Parker BOBBETT in Clinton Co. on the 1900 census, and by 1910 he is married to Ida RUBY. The 1880 census wasn't taken until June, of course, so I can't find identify his family that way, although
19. Joseph R. & Mary Ann (Brown) Camp [1]
I am researching the lines of Joseph R. Camp (b.8/06/1808, NJ) and his wife, Mary Ann Brown (b.Abt. 1815, PA) who were married (m.1/14/1836) and lived in Clinton County, Ohio in the early to mid 1800's. God...I was born in Ohio and lived there for 30 years before moving west in 1976. When I went back for my fathers funeral I also brought his car back out. That was 1995. I had to transfer the title in Ohio...What a terrible experience!!! I was in a line for 4 hours..Now I was healthy but I saw men and women in their eighties...many with canes and obviously very tired standing there.....That type of thinking in Ohio government is one of the reasons I left....Still love Ohio but for its beauty..not for the bu

Does anyone know if there was a Quaker school at Bloomington in Clinton County? A family story has it that my gggrandmother, Elexina Wikle Barks, daughter of George and Sarah Fritz Wikle, went to a Quaker school there in the mid 1850's but I have found no record of it, nor have I found any Wikles in the Quaker records I have consulted. Back in 1976 the title office was in the court house and was just a small office, but since 1976 Clinton County has grown and many changes has taken place, they now have a nice big office out on Rombach and I have yet to wait very long when I have to go out there. Clinton County is a nice place, I was born and raised here, and Kathy, if no reply on your request, please contact me and i will see if i can help you, as i live not 15 minutes from the Clinton County court house, Thanks Deb -----Original Mess
