Hi,
In reading the 1870 census for Erie county, Ohio, I think I found my
family. They were listed as having come from what looks like Hepen Capel.
Could this be Hessen Cassel? Was it the practice to replace ss with
something like a p?

Hi Everyone,
Well I went out to do some research today and when I came home the
power was off to my computer's side of the room. I went down and flipped
the transformer to reset it but when I logged on it said that my mailbox
was full. If you sent a message and it got returned, please resend.

I am looking for Willard BROWN in the 1840 Census of Erie County.
I cannot seem to find an index to the 1840 Census of Erie County. It is
not on the Broderbund CD or in the AIS. Was the 1840 Census for Erie
County destroyed, or something?

It was common practice to use an "leading s" when there is a
double "s" in a word. The leading s looks like a backwards f, so I am
sure that the place was Hessen Cassel, which is in Germany.

Merle, mentioned in one of your statements was a paper you read at the So

could send a .txt format copy out on request? I would like to read it.

While I have no personal experience with the Ohio Dept. of
Health, may I suggest that you bypass them and deal directly with the
county instead. With the possible exception of some of the larger
counties, I believe that the medium and small counties are much easier to
deal with. Just a suggestion, but I have heard that the State Dept of
Health takes more than forever!!!!

P.S. I don't think that I would ask for more than 3 at a time from

May I suggest that you write to Judge Beverly McGookey, Erie
County Probate Court, 323 Columbus Ave., Sandusky OH 44870.
Ask what is needed to open your adoption record. This is not an
unusual request, and Judge McGookey is very understanding!
Good luck

I would like to know what the letters like T, CR and then the plot
numbers are? This applies to Maple Grove Cemetery, Vermilion, OH,
Erie County. Do the letters imply the area of the cemetery or what?

Hi Everyone,
I did query updates to all my county pages. I would appreciate if you
all would check them out (those you are interested in) and let me know if
there is a problem. I am just too tired to do it tonight. Oh and a note,
the OHGenWeb has a new State Coordinator, Allen Richmond, and he moved the
State page to a new address so that is why I had to change everything.
Some of the Free Lookup stuff for 1999 is not done as of yet.
