1. [OHERIE-L] 24th Ohio Infantry Regiment Query [1]
Yes, this is my semi-annual query. ----------- Wanted: A reply from all descendants of veterans who served in the 24th Ohio Volunteer Infantry Regiment, 1861-1864. I am constructing the history and genealogy of the 24th Ohio Infantry Regiment. My idealized focus is ambitious, recording each veteran's antebellum and post-war experiences, as well as their war service information. I need help tracking down the descendants of the 950 veterans. To aid you in determining whether you have a veteran in the u
2. [OHERIE-L] death records [1]
Carol, Wouldn't I have to know the date of death to send for the record? Also, I am not positively sure that a specific family member remained in Erie County. All I have on most of the family is the information in the 1880 census. Marge
3. Re: [OHERIE-L] Catholic Cemeteries in Sandusky [1]
Hello, I noticed the FOLEY name mentioned in your posting. I have a great grandmother, Elizabeth Foley who married Michael J. Doyle and lived in Sandusky from 1870-1900. I have a complete history of Elizabeth's family from Lorain County but thought that maybe her father, Morris FOLEY, might have had some siblings settle in Erie County. Do you have any Foleys originally from Troy, NY or Cork, Ireland. Thanks! Mike Miller Clevela
4. [OHERIE-L] HILL and PATCH Families [1]
Hi Everyone- I'm new to this list, and I live in New Mexico. That makes it a bit difficult to get to Ohio. I'm searching for the families of my g-g-grandparents. They were married in Erie County, Ohio on May 4, 1844. Their names were James Melvin Hill(s) and Sarah M. Patch. James' father was Eben or Ebenezer (or a variant of one of those) and it is believed his middle initial was "B". The family moved to Erie County from Lewis County, NY sometime between 1830 and 1840. Sarah was born in Danbury, C
5. [OHERIE-L] Church Records [1]
I would like to second June's request for church record lookups. I'm looking for HILL and PATCH in Erie County in 1830s and 1840s. I may even have some there in the 1850s, because I don't know what happened to the patriarchs and matriarchs of those families. Any help at all appreciated. Carol Ruidoso, NM

7. Re: [OHERIE-L] Fw: Adam Holzhauer [1]
Hi Fred, I am not working on this line, but in my Father's copy of History of Erie County by Aldrich(1889), I find: Page 581: "Holzhauer, John, Huron p.o., was born in Hessen Kassel, Germany in 1810, and was left an orphan at an early age, and came to America in 1837, settling in Lorain County, Ohio. He was married in 1838 to Orta Shaup, who died April 4, 1844, leaving two children, Caroline and Henry. He married his second wife, Catharine Heidenrich , in March, 1847. She died December 2, 1862. Check out the following: >From History of Erie County by Aldrich, 1889, page 363-4 -- regarding churches in Sandusky: " It was when Mr. Jewett was pastor that the second Methodist Episcopal Church edifice was erected on what is now the High School grounds opposite the Congregational Church. 14. [OHERIE-L] Re: Vermilion Newspapers. [1]
I don't know whether it is still being printed, but there was a weekly Vermilion newspaper being printed up to a few years ago. The Vermilion News. Both my mother and her sister received it for many years after they were married and had left Vermilion. I believe it was either printed by the Trinters or the Neidings, but can't remember which family. It was on Grant Street. Patricia

Brenda / Anyone - My ancestor lived in Erie County. My best guess is Groton, but that is only a guess. I do not know when he died. My guess again is sometime after 1845. Is there a list of active cemeteries in the mid 1800s? If so, is it online? If there is such a list, whether online or not, does it list those buried in each place? I guess I'm probably asking the same questions as Brenda. For those of us not able to visit Erie County, any help at all would be appreciated. Thanks. Carol ----- O
