Can someone tell what happened to the free databases on Ancestry.com?
Prior to the end of April, the "Ancestry Daily News" always listed 4-5
"Databases of the Day" that were FREE to search for about 10 days. Now
all the listings seem to be available to subscribers only. Did I miss an
announcement?

That's a great map. A resource that I highly recommend is "Ohio Lands,"
published by the Auditor of State. It gives the history of each land survey
in the state. It is available at http://www.auditor.state.oh.us then click
on "Ohio Lands Book."

This is not free, but it is available. Actually at the aforementioned site
there are many city directories in many states available for a subscription
fee which is not stated if and when you sign up. I believe there is a
short trial period.

Fellow List Members,
I have no idea how many of you may have known Phyllis Brown Miller Delaney,
Past President of OGS. Phyllis visited our Chapter on more than one
occasion during her tenure as OGS President. She was a very valuable
member of OGS, a very knowledgeable Certified American Lineage Specialist

Well, it finally happened.
Someone else in the world uses the term "bazillions" !! I have been
reading and digesting this list for quite some time now and have responded
little, but this one made my day. A BAZILLION thanks to Mr. Holmes for my
little laugh. Now my kids will believe me that bazillions is a real
term........ but maybe only in Ohio........

Thanks you guys! I had alot of responses to yesterdays posting; some were from the Bright and Beery families, some were from distant relatives who wanted copies, some people had good ideas on why they were best sent to certain people, and others just said, "hey, what a nice thing to do"...you all have a very nice list here! :) Im happy to help...maybe there's something I'd love to have mouldering in an attic or going on the auction block.
I'm still going to wait over the weekend for more replies. In the me

A few of you have asked me about online indexes for the Ohio land grants. Yes, some of them are online at http://www.glorecords.blm.gov/default.asp
A few things to keep in mind with this database (which is the same one that is available from the Bureau of Land Management on CD, as well as from Ancestry.com):
1. So far, it does NOT include the credit entries, which was the majority of pre-1820 purchases (especially in southeastern Ohio).
2. It does NOT include the Virginia Military District, the Connecti
