I was browsing old newspapers on microfilm at library yesterday and
found an article in January 25th 1877 issue of the "Northwestern
Republican" Fulton Co. Wauseon, OH newspaper. It was a History of
German Township and appear to have some facts I have not seen in
other histories. Part of it was the obvious source of Mikesell's
German Twp history he published in 1905 and some of the information I
have seen in other local histories. There was a small booklet of
early Fulton county history that was B
i had a similar issue with some family from henry county. i found
naturalization papers at the court house, i found death certificates there,
also. sometimes those documents will list something other than "Prussia".
in my case they didn't. sometimes the ship's manifest will list hometown,
but again in my case it did not. fortunately for me, my family sailed from
hamburg, germany, and i finally found the hometown listed on the hamburg
passenger list. to obtain that, i had to order it from the LD
Hello List
I found an earlier German Township Fulton County Ohio history
published 7 years earlier in the Northwestern Republican newspaper
here. It has addtional information that the 1877 history did not
have as well as some of the same information. This history was
published in the February 10, 1870 issue and I have posted it online
at the following URL>

Hello all,
I am working on gathering information on the Underground railroad in
Fulton Co. OH and families known to have participated.
I would like to hear from all those that have family stories and
especially any documentation, copies of letters or period histories
that may have been passed down that speak of their family member's
involvement. We are trying to get Fulton Co recognized by the
National Underground Railroad Network to Freedom and some other
organizations, possibly some historical marke

I am researching the family of Mathias and Julia Yhalkee. They are my
husband's 3GGrandparents. I find them on the 1870 Census in Franklin
Twp. with children George (husband's 2Ggrandfather), Ida, Emma. Lena,
and John Lewis, all born in Ohio. George was born in 1855. They gave
their birthplaces as "Prussia". Mathias and Julia both died before
the 1880 census, and are buried at Ayers Cemetery. George married
Anna Spengler in 1877, they had 4 daughters, Marie Otillia, Julia
Anna, Gasella Mae, and Lucile
Have you checked with Julie Krauss about the house at 310 W. Elm in
Wauseon? My limited memories of her as a child included being shown
some nooks for hiding runaway slaves.

I'd love it!! Not sure if they'll connect or not, but you never know,
right? My Yhalkee's stayed in Fulton County, then some ended up in
Michigan, some in Toledo, and I don't know what happened with the
girls.
