Hi -
Please contact me off list or on.... my husband and I have been researching
the Gordons of Gallia County quite extensively, and are planning a trip to
the courthouse sometime in the near future to look at land records so we can
pinpoint where everybody lived.
Who are you interested in? We are always looking for more cousins :-)
Here is my husband's line:

John Richard Gordon - 1929 - (married Ruth SMITH)

Hi List I am looking for a marriage for William Lemley b 1900 in Cheshire.
He married around 1920. As the story goes he was married to? and had a few

that his first wife and children were all dead. I am looking for them...
Any help is appreciated
Thank you.

Hello, listers.
A few weeks ago I asked if anyone had any information on my
great-great grandmother, but I typed her first name incorrectly. Her maiden
name was Rhoda Jane Gaskins, and on 2 November 1848 (or 1858?) she married
Silas Boyer (sometimes shown as Silus Boyers - typos, I'm sure) in Gallia
County. According to the LDS website, both Rhoda and Silas were born in
Franklin County, Ohio with Rhoda born around 1839 and Silas born around
around 1835. This would have made Rhoda a very young br

I don't know about Fred, but I do know that John T., 68 in 1901, was a
school teacher for a period of time (taught my GG Grandmother) and then was
elected Recorder of Gallia and moved to Gallipolis. I have no other info on
him and am not related to the family. The info comes from an affidavit for
my GG Grandfather's pension application.

You're right on all counts, Ginny. I've noticed that families who emigrated often did so with
other families they knew. Naturally, there were marriages between the families' children, so
being too-close cousins would cause problems.

Which is exactly why church membership was so important--it was the one
place where a man could meet women to whom he was not related, and whose
values he shared. When a new family moved into an area/community, the very
first thing they did, was join a congregation. Not only did the church
serve the community's religious needs, but it also was the major social
gathering place.
Thanks Ginny appreciate that you did a look up for me. Thats all I found
also.
Not much to go on. I really think this family did a lot of traveling by
water bet Ohio and La. as we have a good bit of info on relatives there.
We were just trying to find the branches that may still be in our area. I
love finding new cousins.

And if you go back far enough you will find family wanting to keep land and
or money in the family would encourage cousin marriages. Course it may have
made some real sick kids from time to time. Ginny in Cheyenne
Barb, Mg. in Gallia before 1850 shows Peter Francis Chapdu m Julia Renard 15

book and no brides so if Julia remarried it wasn't in Gallia. Ginny
So, that means Kentucky was a liberal state, I take it.

Hi Kath,
The reason that I have all this Sheets info is because I wanted my children
to know of their father's
ancestors. We were divorced many years ago and I did not want them to end
up marrying their
first cousin or some such thing !! Know what I mean ? I will be happy to
share all I have since I
finally have figured out how to send a chart from my FTM. It took me
forever to figure it out; but I
sent it and got an answer from Connie today saying that she had received it.
Now I can stop making
copies

Gwen,
I looked in "Marriage Records, 1901-1925 Gallia County, Ohio" and found no
listing for this couple. I also looked in "Mason County, West Virginia
Marriages, 1806-1915" and found nothing there either.

I think someone may have just asked this so forgive me if I am being
repetitive. Does the Gallia Co. recorder's office have cemetery plot deeds
for plots purchased? Cemetery Records at Gravel Hill, Cheshire were left on
top of a pick up truck by a caretaker years ago, forgotten about and then he
drove off. Many of the unmarked graves are now lost(?) because the old
information is gone. A copy of a deed would be a big help! -Shari
