I recently came across this information. Thought I'd post it here in case anyone is descended from these families. This information came from W. C. Dugan's manuscript of Lewis County, KY. history, entitled "History of Lewis County" which appeared in seven installments
in the Times-Star newspaper beginning on April 25, 1940. This particular portion came from the section of his manuscript which dealt with Old Newspaper Items. This section contained abstracts of items of historical and genealogical value fro

Hi, Pat! What area of Southern Cal are you in? I am in the San Diego,
actually, Spring Valley area! What surnames are you researching?

Researching the following: SMITH, CONGROVE, COLEMAN, BARRETT, HUNT, VINCENT,
PURTEE, TAYLOR, STONE, DAGUE, BREYNIG, SWICK, CANTER, BURTON, ARTHUR, HILL,
SHELLHAMMER, MARBURGER, FLORENCE AND MANY, MANY MORE!
The local office at the farm also has an address where you can order things
from the craft shop - like specially made baskets, candles, etc. Some of
the employees there know a lot about the history but others are newer to the
area.

Also, I just remembered that their is or was a Wood on the Board of Bob Evans
Farms whom, I believe, was a long-time friend. I think it was Bob Wood. I
met him several times at stockholders meetings. He might be related to the
family you are interested in. You could probably write to the corporate
office of Bob Evans Farms in Cols. Someone just posted the address on this
site recently. Anne
Madge, Sorry I have no information on Almia Koontz but, for what it's worth, I'm researching the Roach name, and have a great, great, grandmother, Dinah Knootz, who was married to Simeon Roach probably c. 1830 and probably in Gallipolis. Their son, Ruben Wilson Roach, b. 19 Feb. 1833 in Gallipolis, also married there in 1862, was my great grandfather. Ed

I think it was an honest error. I have been assuming that it was meant to
be personal to Henny. Anyway, looks like it was taken care of, but if it
weren't we shouldn't keep reposting it in our responses.

I was just in the Tax Auditor office vault just on the 20th I did
see a Ohio Company book. I was keeping a eye out for it. As far as I was
able to go back on the Hummerich land was 1881. I hope to go back some time
in the next two weeks.

Does anyone know where one would find the deeds or patents for land that was
an original purchase from the Ohio Company? Were the patents issued by the
Ohio Company or the BLM?
Also where can I find a map that shows what was Ohio Company land and what
was not?

I hate to sound crass, but I think Miss Manley has made it clear the
situation was resolved almost immediately. No sense rubbing salt in the
wound.
That said, it's comforting to know we have honest and alert posters looking
out for each other on these lists.

Do you happen to know what the price is? I did not see any of them when I
was at the museum in May. I asked Mildred about books for sale, but she was
not able to come over that day to help me due to an ill grandchild. So I
may have just missed it.
Thanks,
Kathi

Hey, kiddo.......
How was the trip to Virginia?? Did you discover anything ??
Do you remember Larry Harrison? He graduated with me, and I recently
contacted him about the Harrison family. He says we are connected to the
same Zebulon Harrison in that Scotch_Iriah book you mentioned.
I looked at that at the Library, spent about 2 hours with it, and i saw
Zebulon and his family in it, and I thought I hit paydirt, but he did not
have anyone coming anywhere near Gallia County. he had a son, Robert,

The Ransom Diary is indeed one of the best most detailed of the many diaries
written by former prisoners of war who were held here at Andersonville. It
was widely published and republished and is available at sizable local
libraries or they could get it. The diary is also available at
Andersonville, as well as at most CW POW sites. May I suggest "
Andersonville The Last Depot" as well as " Portals to Hell " as well as the
diary of " Little Red Cap" who was a 13 year old drummer boy held here. He

Ironton is the county seat of Lawrence County. Many people from Gallia
County and from Lawrence County moved back and forth. Lawrence County was,
at one time, part of Gallia County, if I am not mistaken.
If your ancestors are from Ohio Township, Clay Township or Harrison
Township, you may well have connections to Lawrence County as well.
