Thanks Patricia,
I did not have this data. Lewis Blessing of Shenandoah Co., VA was most
likely the same Lewis Blessing, son of Jacob Blessing (d. 1790) of
Shenandoah Co., VA and the brother of John Blessing (1770-1828) of VA and
later of Sugarcreek Twp, Greene Co., OH.
Thanks so much for this information.

Cvealy...here is a really far fetched idea...
I looked up cve in the OED and came up with nothing. Then I thought since
sometimes u looked like a v maybe it is really Cuealy. Then "cue" came up
with about 63 definitions including the one that is used to refer to (what I
shall call) a ponytail at the base of the neck...powdered wigs that men
wore often had a cue, and men often wore their (natural) hair in a cue. (They
still do, but they call it a "ponytail) Is it possible that this woman had

Looking to talk to anyone who might have a connection or otherwise have

I took another look at the image. I could see where the name could be
Hearld, particularly since a Harold Reel, a29, shows up in the 1930 Ohio
census.

The sexton is the person in charge of the cemetery. If it is an old country
cemetery, often they are turned over to the township and not have a sexton.
Then the township trustees have the records. You need to get the actual
cemetery records because they will have the actual death of death on them or
date of burial. You know that they were buried within a few days of death
so that gives you a close enough date to look for the obits. Often the
cemetery records also include a burial permit which would have

You just might be on to something. Mercersburg is just 11 miles from

also a will for Robert Donovan dated 1823-4 and probated in both Champaign

I have found a Susan McDorman Jenkins 1891-1952 buried in Silvercreek Twp.

I have just rejoined the McDorman list, hoping to finally find Elinor Jane

parents were born in NC, according to the Census. John McDorman of Greene Co.
was born either in NC or SC depending on which Census one looks at. He would

Can someone tell me if the Church of the Brethren Church records are accessible. I have family who I have found out were members of the church. I'm looking for deaths in the church, since all I have is a year on the tombstone and they weren't recorded with the county.
Thanks

Hi I am trying to get some full death dates on family members and this is what i have done to get them...
1 wrote to joseph greer and he has helped me with fukk dates of deaths but he can;t spend time on justa year to get a obit which i know is hard to do.
2. then i wrote to the person who has the grape grove cemnetery books and his wife answered and said they didn;t have time to look up information. I sent her a list of 12 persons.
3. I emailed chris wydman and he didn;t have any of the persons i nee
I have just come across a Sarah McConnell who married James Wilson. Also
have a Martha McConnell who married David Wilson. Are either of these of
interest?
Put the 12 on the list and see what happens. It may be someone will have the
same "cousins" or some kind soul, who has been helped by others, will look
them up for you. God bless!! Linda Swaney Sabin
Could you please post what year, where, page number, or head of
household where you saw this name Cvealy? Having peaked my curiosity,
I'd like to look at the census image. That way instead of wild guesses,
you'd get other people's opinion about the handwriting. ( LDS did not
read anyone in the 1880 in Ohio as having that name)
Iam trying to find the parents or siblings of a woman by the name of Mary
Wilson who married Virgil Johnson 4/27/1841 in Greene Co. OH. She was b.
5//8/1816 we believe in Greene Co. OH and d. 6/9/1898 in Poweshiek Co IA.
This Virgil Johnson was the son of Pleasant Johnson of Silver Creek Twp
Greene Co., son of Wm Johnson Patriot (VA). I just can't believe we can't
find this family. There are several Wilsons in the area, there doesn't seem
to be a Wilson will that I have found anyway that mentions her (tha
This might be a stupid question, sorry.
I was just wondering if anyone out there knows why so many people migrated
from Virginia to Ohio. Was it the National Road, was there land offered? I
know my ancestors came from Virginia and so many people on the list mention
that their families came from Virginia.

Hi, several people have wondered about the connection between the Wilson
family and the Badgley family as there are Badgley in the Wilson Cemetery which is
supposedly a family cemetery. In searching for the correct Knott family for
Elizabeth Knott Badgley wife of Moses, I came upon Elizabeth Knott Wilson, wife
of Issac (Essac) S. Wilson. They show up in the 1850 Census in Mad River Twp.
Clark Co. and she in 1880 Census with son Charles in Mad River Twp. Clark Co.
Clifton Cemetery Records of Greene Co.
Dave,
Well now this is getting interesting. Martha Corder who m. David Willson
in ChampCo., OH in 1824, stated she was from PA and the only CORDER in PA
in 1820 was John Corder who was in Antrim Twp., Franklin County, PA. Mary
Ann Corder m. Elza Twigg in ChampCo in 1844. They were from Old Town,
Allegany Co., MD, just SW of Franklin County, PA. So she must also be
related to the John Corder in Franklin County, PA--no other Corder was
nearby. Robert and Mary Criswell were in Brooke Co., (W)VA in
I want to thank everyone who responded to my question about migration.
Obviously there are many reasons why people moved West, but your responses
gave me some information that might help in my pursuit.
Thanks again!

Hi Debbie, yes I have the cemetery on microfiche at my fhc the problem there is they only give you 1823-1900 I need full dates of deaths to get the obit. Well, we have Hearld and now Herbert as first names for the nephew. Thank you
so much all of you wonderful people on these lists. We really do have the
pick of the Internet on Rootsweb. I will publish it if we get an answer about the
company that he worked for in 1920 in Xenia. Again, thank you. Linda Swaney
