The 1850 Hamilton Co. Census Index shows a Adam PFAFF, John PFAFF and a

Cincinnati the first week in August and will be able to look at the census

Fred responds to my question about the Kolping Society in Cincinnati. Seems
I misunderstood his original description of the old Schuetzenvereine (shooting
guilds) and thought the Kolping Society was one too. I still would be
interested if anyone has any info handy on any Schuetzenvereine in Cincinnati
way back when....

I also found some family first names slightly misspelled---seems they were
transcribed from handwriting? Just passing this on to let people know that
you might need to do the search on just last name, like John said you can.

Hi Tim,
I saw your posting.. It may be a week or two before I visit the main
library again, but would be happy to look up your information when I go.
Perhaps I should contact you at that time, and check to see if you are

line of Armstrongs here in Cincy, but I have a little on that name and
thought I would pass it on to you in case you find a connection. Perhaps

I am researching the FOLKS/FOKES family. JOHN FOLKS was born in Ohio in
1835 and his father was born in Georgia. John ran away as a child, and was
in Northern California by 1861. His mother-in-law, Levina Goforth, was with
him by 1870. Her husband, Charles Andrew Goforth, was not. They both came
from Tennessee.
I need to find the family that moved from Georgia to Ohio prior to 1835. The
spelling of the name could be Folks, Folk, Foulkes, Fokes, Fooks, etc.
Then I need to know how John got to California
