Thanks Pat! I am wondering about the details, such as what kind of
marker etc. and if it is only for Civil War vets or does it include
earlier and later wars. I will check the NARA website for information.

Phyllis, you need to proved to the VA that your ancestor was a civil war
veteran -- NARA records, etc. -- and how you are related to the veteran
and
your job is done.
Good Morning! While browsing through the LDS film list for Hamilton County. I saw a group of 60 films labeled "Genealogy file Surname Index, Catalog cards in Cin. & Ham pub. Library". Has anyone on this list ever used these and were they helpful? I have ordered many, many films from LDS but sometimes the titles are misleading and the contents are not what I expect. Thanks for your help. Stephanie

Off of the top of my head (really) I can think of 2 different things this may
refer to.
1) Way back when, meaning a long time ago, I recall a surname index on file
cards at the library that was essentially the Genealogy Societies of what was
submitted to them by members, of information on index cards. I guess it's
possible it could have amounted to 60 films, but that seems a lot.
2) The library has also indexed surnames in books which were mentioned 3 or 5
times (don't recall which). I'm not sure if they

Ann, do you know offhand what entitles a Civil War veteran to receive a
military marker/headstone as you mentioned in your email?
Phyllis G.

And -- if you have a veteran ancestor who was entitled to a government
headstone -- by all means contact the VA. It is still possible to get
that military marker put on his grave - as long as you know where he's
buried.
Hi CK,
You might have better luck looking for a birth announcement in a local newspaper.

Hi list!
Can anyone tell me if there were any Quaker Establishments anywhere in
Hamilton County from about 1820- 1860's? My ancestors were apparently
Quakers and lived in Miami Twp., and Collerain Twp. during the time frame
listed above. Trying to figure out the best direction to go from here.
Thanks,

I have been working on the line of Michael E. DEMPSEY and Margaret TULLY

Hamilton Co 1900 census. Does anyone on this list have access to birth
and/or marriage data for Cincinnati in that time period? The census shows
their daughter, Margaret (or Rita) born Aug 1891 in OH, and I am wondering
if that would be in Cincinnati or elsewhere. Also, news to me from the
census, Michael's niece Adeline DAVIDSON, b 1893 in OH, was livin

I've "rescued" an old photograph of Jesse Ames MULFORD which was taken at
the Stevens Studio in Logansport, Indiana. The photograph was likely taken
in the 1870's with Jesse appearing to be in his 40's at the time. Based on
limited research, I believe that Jesse Ames MULFORD was b. 9 Dec 1830 at
Watervliet Center, NY and married Martha Baxter WILSON 17 Jan 1856 at

In 1880 the family was living in Logansport, IN and recorded in the census

It appears to me that Joseph Edwards sold a quarter of an acre in 1818 to

after the death of their father (1841).
