The obituary for my GG GF, Fred. H. W. SCHMIESING [b. 1849, Germany, d.
2/1918, Cincinnati], said that he was a member of the Pioneer Society of
Cincinnati. Would any of you know what records of the society might be
available and where?

Is there a section of the directories that list addresses and the names of
people at that address? I'm looking for the years 1878 and 1879.
Thanks,

Charles,
Email your request to the Cincinnati Public Library at:
mgstaff@plch.lib.oh.us.
Include the person's name and date of death and explain that you don't know
which newspaper it might be in. Also include your home mailing address. They
will not
email the answer to you.
They will send you a copy in the mail if they can find it, and also include
a bill for a small charge.

Hi Paula and listmembers,
I think it might be a good idea if I post look-up answers to the list.
That way others can see the information as well. It's fine to email me
directly with your request though. I have already gotten requests for
the same surnames today. Plus, the information will be in the Rootsweb
archives for you in the future if you lose the information. If anyone is
not ok with this, please specify that in your request. Thanks.
Paula, I will do your look-up request in batches, if that i

I've "rescued" an old photograph of Will WHATELY of Cincinnati, Ohio which
was taken at the Bayne's Block Studio in Greencastle, Indiana. The
photograph appears to have been taken in the 1880's with Will looking to be
in his 20's at the time. The photograph was recovered along with many
identified as members of the class of 1883 leading me to believe that he was
attending school in Greencastle.
Based on limited research I do this may be a photograph of William WHATELEY

Charlene, there are no BROSAMs listed in the 1889 Cincinnati City

Hi Tom,
My grandmother died in 1929 at Longview and I wrote to the place which
is now named Pauline Warfield Center (I believe) asking about her
records. I was told that the records were destroyed ten years after the
patient either died or was dismissed. I haven't tried the OH Historical
Society yet, but plan on doing so. There are a lot of people out there
who would like to get the facts on family members who died at Longview.
Good luck to all.

Linda, the directory just lists the City Infirmary as having offices
at 267 Plum. But, no list of occupants. Sorry.
For your information, every email I have sent to you has been returned
to me as undeliverable, so I am having to post to the list. Your anti
spam may be blocking emails that you otherwise might like to receive.

My grandfather, Fred. G. Pfitzer immigrated from Germany in 1885 and settled in Cincinnati. He lived on Abigail St. in the "Over the Rhine" section of Cincinnati for several years, later moving into the Fulton area where he worked for C. Crane & Co., a lumber mill on the banks of the Ohio River in the general area of the Rookwood Crossing.
I would be interested in any and all information that I can get concerning C.Crane & Co. such as when the business started, when it closed, etc. I have one photo of the

The roster covers the entire state, 1880.

I almost hate to ask since it looks as if you have been swamped with lookup
requests .....but when you get the time I'd like a lookup for Daniel
(Dan) HUNTER. He worked for the railroad in Cincinnati and died there of
tuberculosis in 1910. Was from KY but was buried in Wesleyan Cemetery in
Cincinnati.
He was my great grandfather.
Many thanks for offering to do this.

Does anyone know anything about a firm named Hunnewell and Hill, a
"queensware" and furnishing store at 101 main in Cincinnati in 1840. The
1840 city directory lists a G.H. Hill, formerly of Rhode Island and a
Daniel Hunnewell, formerly of Massachusetts as being the proprietors of
that store.
The location in 1840, "101 Main" would seem to be favorable. I wonder if
anyone knows how long they were in operation?
