Does anyone on list know when the historical society in Greenfield is open
and what kinds of materials are there? I understand it is in building
called Traveler's Rest on east side of downtown near river. Also am
interested in the historical museum in Hillsboro but see by web site that
they are open Friday and Sunday afternoons. Any info appreciated. Still
searching STRAIN and CLEMENTS and related lines in Highland County. Happy

While your Stroup information is a bit later than mine I am looking for
information concerning Melissa Stroup who married my great-grandfather's
brother John Wilson Curry in 1868 in Highland County, OH. They moved from
Highland County to Knox County, IL after their only son was born in 1877 in
Rainsboro, Highland County, and remained in Knox County until their deaths.
I would like to find the parents of Melissa.
The IGI shows a Melissa Stroup to be the child of Henry and Rebecca Stroup.

Thank you for your help. I appreciate all the Stroop information!
I have not looked for Melissa's death certificate. I am on a budget with
this and since she is my great-grandfather's sister-in-law I just haven't
spent the money for it.
Thanks again! and good luck in your searches!

Gayle,
It would appear that Rebecca is the mother of Melissa. In the 1850 census
(under Henry "Stoop") in Madison Twp, Highland County, there is Henry 30,
Rebecca 36, Elizabeth 34, Henry 74, all b. Virginia; Morgan 17, Melissa 3, both
b. Ohio. Re the IGI: Morgan is the son of Daniel, but I don't know. Up until
1880, Morgan is listed either next to or one household away from Henry.
In 1860 we find Henry Stroupe 40, Rebecca 42, Elizabeth 41, all b. Virginia;
and Melissa 12, b. Ohio.
In 1870, Henry "Str

family sounds familiar. I have no idea who Sarah's
parents were but near where she settled in Tippecanoe
