1. Re: [OHHURON-L] Alfred Brant/Feick [1]
Hi Norma, I don't know anything about the Brant family, but the Feick family from Sandusky were builders. I think they were the main contractors in building the Hotel Victory on South Bass Island. One of their descendents stopped in our Museum last summer and told me that story. 2. Re: [OHHURON-L] Fw: price change [1]
I've gotten many death certs from the Ohio Historical Society site. Does this law apply to them also or will they still be allowed to charge the $1 per cert fee they charge now? Even so, I hear they are in jeopardy of losing funding and thus we may/will lose the use of thier site/services. 3. Re: [OHHURON-L] Fw: price change [1]
Thanks for the clarification, Amy. ODH records are only pertinent after 1908, so evidently the 1867-1908 records for "certified" copies won't be affected. I sure hope vital records after 1908 will still be available at least as "uncertified" Anthony Coyan ----- Original Message ----- From: "Amy Johnson Crow" To: Sent: Tuesday, June 10, 2003 1:11 PM Subject: Re: [OHHURON-L] Fw: price change > Anthony, > > The probate courts are not supposed to stop issu
4. [OHHURON-L] Huron county cemetary lookup request [1]
Upon visiting the Huron county rootsweb site today, I found burial records for several McCAGUE's on page 10 of the Huron county cemetary book. Would some kind soul who has a copy of that book be willing to tell me which cemetary this would be and the DOD's for Rosanna and Thomas McCague. Thanks! Anthony Coyan

6. [OHHURON-L] NELSON - Hurnon County - 1820-1840 [1]
Is there an index of marriage in Huron County for the early 1800's? I need to find more about a John NELSON and his wife Almira. Their first child was born in Huron County in about 1821 so I am assuming they were married about 1819 or 1820. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you. 7. [OHHURON-L] Jonathan BROWN [1]
New to this List. My 4th ggf, Jonathan BROWN, reportedly died 1841 in Norwalk, Huron, OH at age 92. He moved to Ohio in 1838 from PA. He was a Rev War veteran. Is/was there a headstone or death record for him? If so, what does it show and who else was buried in his plot? Jonathan had two identified sons, Jonathan, Jr., and Lewis S. Jonathan, Jr. reportedly died in Milan, OH in 1839 at about age 54 and had lived in that area since about 1815. Lewis S. apparently never lived in Ohio. Jonathan, Jr. and his

Amy, From what I can see, the new law states that "uncertified" copies of Vital Records will no longer be issued, period, only "certified" ones. So I don't think that local Probate courts have to "interpret" this. A digital photo, taken from the actual books in the courthouse, would be an "uncertified copy" ( contrary to what I inadvertently stated earlier). Will the Probate courts allow an individual to "take it upon themselves" to make "Uncertified" copies? To me, that's the question we genealogists now

10. [OHHURON-L] Keller family [1]
I'm trying to find out when my grandmother's family lived in Norwalk. My grandmother was Leona P. Keller. I know they were there between 1913 and 1916, but I don't know when they arrived (presumably from Zanesville or that area) nor when they left (presumably for Sandusky - they were definitely in Sandusky in the 1940s). The parents were Charles E(li) Keller and Ethel L. Conn Keller. I have a newspaper clipping from my grandmother's engagement (early 1916), giving the family's address as 19 West Chestnut

Dave, I looked through the Huron County, Ohio Cemetery inscriptions book for you. Here is what I found: 1. There are several John Browns (none Jonathan). 2. There is one listed on page. 462, for Brown Cemetery. Here is what it reads, " Brown Cemetery, also called Pickrin's Corners Cemetery, is located in the northeast corner of Lot 17, Section1, Township 4, Range 22, Norwalk Twp., on the west side of Laylin Road, 500 feet south of SR 18, just two miles east of Norwalk. 15. [OHHURON-L] Alfred Brant/Feick [1]
I just purchased a post card. the post card is written by Alfred Brant to his father. On this post card are several people and 3 children on a ship named the Bayern. It is written in German. According to the ships Manifest Alfred Brant was 33 when he came to the US with his wife Magnelena and his daughter Grete who was 4. It states that his cousin paid his passage and he had $75.00 on him when he arrived. He would be staying with his cousin Carl Feick at 321 Decatur Street Sandusky, Ohio, the date on

Hello guys Thanks to Michelle Posner who found Matthias Fritz's brother Fred H Fritz's biography I was able to pinpoint a couple more names. Does anyone have a Josephine Fritz who married a Benjamin Miller? Also I have found out for sure what I was guessing all along.... Anthony Fritz was a younger brother of Matthias and according to the 1880 census he married a Mary and they had at least two kids Mary and Herman. Does anyone have connections to these names? We live in CA and will be leaving Wednesday morning for a trip that will take us briefly through Norwalk. Is there someplace there (The Norwalk Library?) that we can find the book "Huron County, OH Cemetery Inscriptions" published by the Huron County Chapter of OGS, 1997"? We have found my husband's GGGrandparents (and other family members) listed on Rootsweb, but we don't know which cemetery or where it may be located. The family is CARTER, Otis G., page 568, Otis G. IMPORTANT info for genealogists -- cost of Ohio birth & death certificates may go from $1 to $17. Your immediate action is necessary if we are to have any chance of stopping this increase. Email Governor Taft to stop the 1700% price increase for birth & death certificates. If Governor Taft signs the bill, then you should immediately contact your state senators and representatives and ask that they sponsor legislation to roll back the price increase and reinstate uncertified copies at reduced cost. 22. [OHHURON-L] BROWN cemetery info [1]
Patti, Thank you very much for checking the Huron Co. Cemetery inscriptions book and sending me all the info. The only "hit" I see may be Charles A. BROWN 1835-1919. My Jonathan BROWN, Jr. had a grandson Charles Austin BROWN. A birth date of 1835 would fit fine. I had no info about Charles. My Jonathan BROWN, Sr. consistently used "Jonathan" as his first name. Including deeds and in his RW Pension papers. In view of the expansion of Erie Co. in 1840 and the proximity of Norwalk to the Erie Co. boundry I

I also checked the index and the only other "fits" are JA and JC. Could either of these be your Jonathan ( I can do both if needed). I also looked through my copy of "History of Huron County" Volume II by A. J. Baughman and it only had two browns, Fred and Thomas J. If you wish, I can send you these biographies if needed. As far as Lorain or Erie County, I don't know anything about them. I would suggest checking their websites for rootsweb (usgenweb) and maybe sending a request via their mailing
