1. Re: [L'wrence] Re: [Lawrence] Festus Dillon(1896-1918) Scottown, Lawrence Co., OH [1]
Good morning, Helen, No, I have not received a photo of Festus Dillon. And I was not aware of the WWI reference of Lawrence Co. folks. Thanks for this information, I'll look into that, though I hate to bother Don Clark. He is terribly busy at this time. I have tentatively planned on a fall trip to Lawrence Co. anyway. Thanks again, Henry Helen F Riley wrote: > Hello Henry, > Have you received a picture of Festus? > > Your e-mail attracted my attention. My dad was 2 years younger than > Festus. He

Don, Thank you for the info on the Griffith cemetery.I`m going to Gallipolis in a few days.Is the Hamner room at the Historical Society in Gallipolis or in Lawrence Co? It sounds like an adventure to go to the cemetery, but will be fun.No I don`t have an SUV,but I can walk.Maybe I`ll try to get a plat map of La. co, in that era.My husband is good at reading old plat maps and finding locations on today`s maps.Or maybe we can find a map online.Do you know if the cemetery is being taken care of or no

Linda, At long last, I was able to look through the information that you sent to me in detail. So, from the looks of things, Elizabeth would have been the oldest child of Fred Griffith and Ruth Osborn. That was way different than what I had. Do you know where Elizabeth and Walter are buried (assuming that they are together in Gallia County)? Did you get a chance to look through the information that I sent to you about the siblings of Elizabeth? Do you have any additional or different information on an
5. Re: [L'wrence] Genealogy Society-inqueries [1]
Our apologies to anyone waiting for a letter to be answered. I wear several hats, and for the last several months three of them were Genealogy oriented. Hat 1: The society is finishing a new volume of county history, for which I was the coordinator. By that I mean that all material came to my computer for processing into the format the publisher requested. Stories had to be checked and sometimes edited to strip out formatting that would not work on a three column page. Photos had to be scanned
6. Re: [L'wrence] Elizabeth Lanthorn [1]
Jean, Yes someone told me that the Griffith cemetery is in Lawrence Co.Aid Twp. on TR 197,east of TR233. I haven`t taken time to look at the map yet,do you know what TR stands for? Thanks,Linda I`ll send you a list of people in Elizabeth and Walter`s family soon. This weekend has been very busy for me.
7. [L'wrence] Alternatives [1]
It is clear that our access to public records is going away. My suggestion to you all is to think ahead and try to get hold of what indexes and vital records you can now IF they are available, WHILE they are available. For example, here in KY there is a bill pending in the Senate which, if passed, would take our access away to the KY birth/marr/death indexes and make all vital records almost impossible to get. So I'm stocking up on things like vital records CDs for the states I need, even if those

Mary, The Lawrence County Genealogical Society sends out newsletters (4 a year). You have to join the society to get the newsletters, but joining is cheap - $10 a year. I came in on this late - and I'd like to know WHY the government would stop access to records of those long gone?? Or is this for more recent ancestors - say still in the 1900's? Thanks for any info. Linda, Thanks for all of the info. I'll have to print out the items that you sent and figure out what info I would like. Sorry that your e-mail to me bounced back. You would think that a big computer company like HP wouldn't have that happen, but it does, and fairly often. Goofy! I just want to say I think Don does a WONDERFUL job. I know from experience that he spends a great deal of attention to detail. I greatly respect and am deeply grateful for the work he continues to do as he oversees the book project. He is a very selfless person who spends so much time on others. What an awesome responsibility. How fortunate we Lawrence County researchers are that Don makes himself available to us at all. May we never take him for granted. The Hamner Room is the Genealogy and Local History Room of Briggs Library in Ironton. The Aid and Mason Township Cemeteries books were done by the Gallia County group about the time the Lawrence Co Gene Soc was getting organized. They did individual booklets for each Gallia Township plus the two for Lawrence Co.. I can scan and send the needed map section to anyone who emails me directly. All these maps are also available in the Hamner Room if you visit Ironton. I have the Hardesty Lake Atlas which h

The Hamner Room has a copy of the Aid Township Cemetery readings as recorded in 1983 and published by the Gallia Co. Historical Soc. It gives complete directions to the Griffith Cem. If you have an SUV you might be able to drive to the general vicinity, but they describe the rout as involving as fairly rough 1 mile walk. TR stands for Township Road. The TR 233 mentioned is apparently no longer in existence and is not shown on the current county Map. TR 197W is shown on the current map, and does g

Hello Henry, Have you received a picture of Festus? Your e-mail attracted my attention. My dad was 2 years younger than Festus. He and Festus worked together on some roads in Lawrence Co. OH. Is there a picture of Festus in the WWI book for Lawrence Co. OH? I know I found pictures of my Uncle Clarence Dillon who was in WWI; also some Dawson cousins. Are you familiar with this book? I do not know the proper title. Lawrence Co. library has a copy of this book. Perhaps Don Clark can check this book fo
