Hi, everyone! I am searching for any information on Jonathan Webb, who purchased land in Lawrence County, Ohio in the early 1800s. I believe he may be related to Pleasant Webb, Hanley/Handley Webb, etc., as some descendants of that line ended up in Livingston, Daviess and Harrison Counties, Missour
Thanks Helen....my grandma's RICE is like this:
Harriet Martha Rice b: April 14, 1913 died: 1989.
Mother: Gertruda Susanna Meyers
Father: Edwin Stanton Rice
Both of Miami County, Ohio.
Edwin's parents owned a store in Troy, Ohio for ever. His father started it. They were staunch Catholics, and when Grandma married Grandpa (Old Order Brethren)(Dunkards). Her family disowned her. They say the riff started with Edwin & Gertruda anyhow.....she was the house maid to his parents. lol

At this time I really don't know the subjects of all the stories sent in for
this new book.

I wish I had know about this......well, maybe next time. :o(
I will post my query again to a family mystery......
In the 1940's my grandparents decided to move from Montgomery County Ohio to Lawrence County Ohio to buy a farm. They had 10 children at that time. Grandpa had a hard time with his crops that year, and decided to lease out his land to a coal company, who said they would get the coal, and put the property back as they found it, and Grandpa would get 50 percent of the profit.
Well little did th

Forgive the mispelling of WOODYARD. I'd be interested in information regarding this family. I also have a photo of Ivy Dillon's father, Squire Dillon, online at:

I'd be interested in additional photos of this family as well.

I hope I'm not repeating a question, but I wondered if you knew the name of the
book, year of publication and/or publisher. I'd be very interested in obtaining or
at least reading acopy of it.
Thanks,

Hello,
I had the information from Chester Miller's book, HENRY MILLER FAMILY AND
DESCENDENTS typed for you; then my server cut me off WebMail, and it was
lost. Here I go again.
HENRY MILLER of Greenbrier Co., VA, was 79 in the 1850 Census of Symmes
T., Lawrence Co. OH. He had two marriages: 1st to BARBARA ARBAUGH,
1796, dau. of ADAM & MARY ARBAUGH. By this wife he had Delphene, Isaac,
Elizabeth, Adam and George. By his 2nd wife BARBARA RIFE he had Delilah,
Rachel, Rhoda and Ellen.
George is Rachel E.
Hi Helen,
I have been trying to find the family of a Rachel Miller, I do not know when
she was born. She was married to a Samuel Donley and their first child was
Sabina born in 1897. Sabina married Frank Boyd I do not know when or were.
I would like to find that information. Also any connection of the family to
Native American heritage.
My Neal's are in Cabell Co. WV. James Neal ,
William Jackson Neal, are the ones I am looking for. I believe James was
born in Tazewell Co. VA but I am not sure
Has anyone ever heard this name? I have a very old picture postcard, the picture on the front may be Darius Gilmore. Written in pencil and faded, it is very hard to read. The gist seems to be, Darius is campaigning for John Langrand Strait who was running for Congress. No date is given.
This postcard was in an envelope in my mother's trunk. Written on the envelope, "My grandfather."
Thanks for any help.

Could SKS please look for an obituary for Vinton Gilmore who died 23 June 1914 in Ross or Pickaway Co. Ohio. He was living near Clarksburg at his death, but the death is reported in Pickaway. Mader's handled the arrangements, but their records do not go back that far and his death certificate does not say where he is buried.
He was the son of Daruis and Rachel Ann Wilson Gilmore of Lawrence Co. Ohio.
I need to know place of burial.
Thanks for any help,

Hi Mary,
I believe there was a Neal family next door to my Denin family in Aid
Township. Also, some of my Denin/Payton ancestors were buried in Neal
Cemetery, also in Aid. Sorry I don't have the details in front of me at the
moment, but I believe there is a connection with the two families. Perhaps
this will give you a direction to look.

I would like to connect with descendants of Joseph Clyde WOODYARD, born Proctorville, Ohio, 1890 - died Houston, Texas, 1974. He and his wife Ivy (DILLON) moved to Houston six years prior to his death. His descendants include the surnames of WILSON and TULL..
I have ancestors who knew him and would like to share stories and information.

Hi,
What a sad story! Sounds like something that could happen in Lawrence Co. Once an outsider, always an outsider!
I was born in Lawrence Co. and was 16 when my family moved to Greene Co., OH. My husband and I moved back in 1980. His family had lived in Lawrence Co., too. You would have thought we had always been from the outside. The people were nice, but we were not one of them.
Well, after all that, I do not know of your Blankenships, but I am interested in the Rice in your family. Do you hav
Hi,
Thanks for writing. I am not familiar with these Rices. I did have some
Rices that came to Montgomery Co. OH. They were children of my
great-great uncle Thomas Jefferson Rice.
Thanks again.

Hi! I have a number of ancestors from Lawrence County who did not have wills. Where and how would I go about finding probate records for them? I appreciate any help on this as I've never done any research in the probate records. Thanks!

We met with the publishers representative last week, and can now state with
certainty that the:
FINAL DEADLINE FOR ALL FAMILY STORIES IS JANUARY 15, 2003
Those stories must be emailed for that date to apply. Mailed stories must be
received by Jan 1, because it takes longer to process them.
Anyone with Lawrence Co roots who has not sent in a story on their family is
urged to do so. A story about your family of today or about some of your
ancestors will work, If your ancestor was a Civil War Vetera
