11. [OHLAWREN] Nicholas Sutherds-Southers /Lawrence & Gallia Co, OH [1]
Hi Below is what I've been able to piece together (with the help of a cousin) on Nicholas Sutherds-Southers and his son, Nicholas Southers. Nicholas #1, I believe, is a son of William & Sarah Sutherds, who appear on 1860 Lawrence Co, OH census & 1870 Lawrence co/or Gallia co, OH census. Nicholas is not on either census - he may have already left home, but that is pure conjecture. Some obit info and childrens births are listed for Nicholas #2. 12. [OHLAWREN] The South Carolina Connection to Lawrence County, Ohio [1]
Dear Subscribers to the Lawrence County, Ohio Mailing List, John CAMPBELL moved from South Carolina to Lawrence County, Ohio in 1819. In 1826, he built Union Furnace with John MEANS, another South Carolinian. John MEANS also settled in Lawrence County, Ohio in 1819. An abolitionist, he brought his slaves to Ohio that they might be free. The fact that John MEANS was from South Carolina and was an abolitionist suggests that he was a Quaker, since there was an important Quaker settlement in South Carolina.
