1. [MERCER] lost emails [1]
I have had a major computer disaster and have lost my address book and all emails received since last August. I will get Mercer mail from the archives, but I would appreciate an email from those I am in direct contact with, so I can rebuild my address book. If you happen to have copies of emails to me in a 'sent' file, I would love to get copies. Thanks, Terry Bava terry_bava@yahoo.com

3. Re: [MERCER] Kremer family [1]
Nice to meet you. I'm not related to the Kremer's. The article about Fr. Sebastian just happened to be in my grandmother's and uncle's stuff and I thought it was unusual. Actually, I guess I am sort of related to the Kremers. My husband's aunt's husband was a Cramer. His sister married a Kremer (last name Cramer changing to Kremer). They live just outside of Versailles. Of course that is really stretching a relationship. carol _________________________________________________________________

Carol - at the risk of annoying you - I can't next week as I will be at the beach - I figured out who Clem Stein is and who died in the crash. I'll include the family group at the end. Catherine VonderHaar Stein was the daughter of Maria Kremer and Henry VonderHaar of Recovery Township. Henry VonderHaar is the one who bought the Heinrich Kraemer farm when Heinrich died in 1874 at the age of 40. Catherine would have been Sebastian's first cousin. It must have been an incrdible funeral. I am also int

7. [MERCER] wabash one room school [1]
from: --- Nancy Powell --- nancyorland@earthlink.net I was surprised to see anything about Wabash, Ohio. My father-in-law went to school there (Orland Powell; in 1912 he should have been to 6 grade). I would like to know if I could get a copy of picture of school, that Marge White has ? I will reimburse all cost for copy and mail cost. Please let me know. Thanks, Nancy

The booklet was in Memoriam for Fr. Sebastian Kremer who died in a car crash on Dec. 11, 1955 (thanks to Jim Scharf for supplying the year). Mr. Catherine Stein, a cousin also died as a result of the crash) The booklet is 3 1/2 by 6 inches and 12 pages long. It is a very interesting read. Not only does it detail his history as a priest, but there are details of the crash by the survivor Clementine Stein and also of his funeral. At his funeral were the bishop, 9 monsignori, and about 85 priests. N

10. Re: [MERCER] crucifix question [1]
Read your email regarding the crucifix. I will print your email and take it into work and have our priest at the hospital see if he can come up or know of the explanation about it. 11. [MERCER] crucifix question [1]
Explanation copied from "Church Symbolism" by F. R. Webber, second edition, revised. Cleveland J. H. Jansen, Publisher, MCMXXXVIII. "Often a skull is shown lying at the foot of the cross. This represents the skull of Adam, and it's location at the foot of the cross is symbolical, rather than a proved fact. It is symbolical of the sin of man; and the blood of the Lamb of God which drips down upon it is typical of the washing away of the believer's sins through the power of the shed blood of Jesus Christ

Carol, I know you said no "llok ups" yet, and I appreciate you are busy. I would just like to ask that when you get around to it, I would like info from the booklet about the priest that was killed in accident. I believe he was a "WEIS", my ancestors. I am not trying to rush anything. Just when you get around to it. I didn't know there was a booklet. He was son of an uncle. Thanks. Penny Weaver Brookville OH
14. [MERCER] I got a present -- gift of photos [1]
My uncle visited Sunday and dropped off two photo albums/scrapbooks and two boxes of old photos and funeral cards. Who says Christmas only comes on Dec. 25th? Now I have alot of work to do. I don't know how long I will have them. Some of the photos are labeled but others aren't. There were alot of clippings about Our Lady of Guadalupe Church (Montezuma) being built. Also a photo of Fr. Schwieterman who was killed in Minster. There was a booklet about another priest who was killed in a car crash

17. Re: [MERCER] crucifix question [1]
Thanks for your explanation. I left a message with our priest and he said it was to remind us of death. I think your version is a more accurate and detailed explanation. Thanks for quoting your source also. I didn't know that there was a book like that. I wonder if others have been taught a simple meaning behind it when they were younger and just have passed it along. carol >From: "Jason Gaerke" Explanation copied from "Church Symbolism" by F.
