I think the best way would have been down the Muskingum to Marietta. If
they left in a boat from Zanesville.

You can look up cemeteries from the U.S. Geological Survey at
http://mapping.usgs.gov/www/gnis/gnisform.html
Go to Feature Type and enter cemetery and then the state and county and it will give you the longitude and latitudes of the cemeteries in that county.

I am looking for information on my great grandfather Robert Vande Vort from
Muskingum County, Ohio.
The only information I have right now is from his discharge papers from the
Civil War.He was a private in the 88th regiment of Infantry of Ohio.
He was discharged on November 30, 1864 to return to Muskingum County, Ohio and
his occupation was listed as farmer. The discharge papers indicate he was 18
years of age though it is not clear whether it was eighteen at the time of the
discharge in 1864 or 18 at t

My grgrgrandmother was Cynthia Vandervort (not sure of the spelling).
She married Theodore Washington Moore. I don't know if they were
originally from Muskingum Co, but at least some of their 7 children were
born there. My grgrandfather George Washington Moore (their son) was
born in 1858 near Rix Mills, Muskingum Co. That's all I know about
Cynthia, although I do have a picture of her
The first of the Nye family to arrive in Ohio was probably Ebenezer and
Ichabod Nye who purchased land from Putman, Rufus and Co. (The Ohio
Land Company) near Marietta
in 1788. In 1797, Lewis Nye made similar purchases.(1) In 1804-05
Lewis Nye moved up the Muskingum River to Jonathan Creek, an important
tributary of the Muskingum. He built a hewed-log house (where
Newtonville now is). He was probably the first of the Brethren (?) to
buy
land on Jonathan Creek.(2)
George NIGH lived in Washington County,

Hello!
I'm looking for the parents of William Ora Hayes (1870-1937). W.O.
Hayes
was a long-time resident of both Muskingum and Guernsey counties. My mother
believed that W.O. Hayes' maternal side were Grigsbys. Family tradition
has it
that his parents were Catholics who lived in Zanesville.
Which Catholic churches were existant in Zanesville in the 1800's??
Best wishes,
Bill Hayes
Great-grandson of W.O. Hayes

Hello Muskingum County Researchers,
It's been awhile since I posted this request so maybe some new people
are now on the list. I'm searching for data concerning my gr
grandparents.
Frederick LEONHART is listed in the Muskingum County Footprints

Hi;
According to my family history, my ancestors came from Martha's Vineyard,
MA in 1814 to Zanesville, Ohio and from there went on a flatboat to Anderson
Ferry near Cincinnati, Ohio. Does anyone have any information about this
route of migration? Why they came to Zanesville, what river did they take to
get to the Ohio River? Did they stay in Zanesville long?
Any information would be greatly appreciated.
