During the American Civil War, the Ohio National Guard regiments were
originally part of Ohio Governor William Dennison's "Militia of the

case of emergencies.
Most of these Militia of the Reserve units expressly asked to be
enrolled as Home Guards, so that they would serve only within the state.
However, Ohio Governor John Brough made a new wrinkle in this militia

The Scotio Land Co. went to Paris to sell land in Muskingum or Washington

land was not available. Does anyone have a source for the accurate
history, and/or a list of the French settlers?

Can anyone help with advice on researching naturalization records in
Muskingham County? I have two ancestors who immigrated from Ireland around
1820 or so, and would like to know how to obtain the naturalization records.
Would this be something I'd request from the county courthouse? Is there a
publication that lists them? I don't know the port of departure from
Ireland or their port of entry to the U.S., but do know that they settled in
Muskingham County, Ohio.

Was there a Methodist Episcopal church - called Hopewell - in existence
in Muskingum County before 1850?
What was the name of the ME Church in Newtonville (White Cottage)?
Christopher Lenhart owned the NW Quarter of Section 17 and his son,
Isaac, sold 28 square rods (a bit more than one-tenth of an acre) to the
ME church.
One researcher reports that Christopher, in 1848, willed $1000 to the
Hopewell Missionary Society. This would be like a million dollars today
- surely some church historian made note of
I did not personally research this information--it was provided to me by Phil
Bach, another Bolin researcher. The family does in fact descend from Robert
Bolin and Elizabeth Priest Bolin; therefore, since my Caroline Bolin (married
to James C. Young) is not in your Bolin listing it may be that there was some
real confusion about whether this was a Bolin or a Bowman. I do have a John
Bolin, born 18 Feb 1819 married to Jane Burley, . They were married 20 Jan
1842. Do you have other Bolin information you

Mary (or Margaret) LEONARD (or could it have been LENHART?) born 14 May 1803
married Peter VANDENBURGH (b 16 Nov 1799) in Oct 1822.
They show up on the 1830 Census in Zanesville and then seem to disappear.
Peter died in 1840 and does not seem to be buried in Muskingum Co, and in the
1840 Census there is a Mary VANDENBERG as head of household found in Perry Co.
The family eventually ends up in Licking Co. a generation later.
Did they move to Perry Co.? Did Peter die and is buried in some obscure place
