Diane, see the Ottawa County USGenWeb site at http://www.rootsweb.com/~ohottawa/index.htm for information about churches and church records. Follow the links for "places" and "churches".

My Ottawa County ancestors arrived from Germany in 1880. The BAHNSEN
family arrived first, in April, joining their eldest son, Andreas
Marcus BAHNSEN, who had come a year or two earlier. The 1880
immigrants in the family consisted of Martin August BAHNSEN
(1830-1911), his wife Magdalena Maria SONNICHSEN (1832-1898), and
their three youngest surviving sons, Momme Melf Ingwert (1861-1927),

married daughters, Maria Catherina (1855-1893) married t

Both of my Paternal grandparents families immigrated to Danbury in the late
1800s. I am probably related to a lot of Port Clinton people at this point.
The Dubbert family is headed by Caroline and Christoph Dubbert who
immigrated with their mature family in 1891. Any person in the Port Clinton area, who
has a Dubbert in their line are related to Caroline and Christoph. They were
from Axelshof (church in Kummerow), Germany which is near Mulchin (North

My Ottawa County families include Jesse SKILES (d. 1916) and his first wife, Lewis JARVIS (JERVIS) (d. 1896) and second wife Alice LOGARD OBEY (dau. William GRAVES and Sarah FOUNTAIN). I spent most of last night looking for "Hall Road". I never found it... but

- the 1920 census shows a Jacob held family at Rd #44 not so very far out of town and not so very far from Portage River Rd South.
- I have a very old plat map copied from the Harris/Elmore Library which ac
Am interested in John Brown Jr. son of the famous John Brown Sr. of Harpers Ferry fame in 1858. He lived on South Bass Island from 1862 until his death in 1995 and he grew grapes and other fruit !! His wife was Wealthy Hotchkiss (1829-1911)

One of my Dubbert cousins is married to a Kirk. I think her father or Grand
father ran the Dairy. There is some information in the Historical pamphlets
that the Gypsum people have put together. Evidently the Kirks owned the
land that Erie Army Depot was on. The government purchased it, and they moved
to the area near Gypsum, Ohio.
I have two of the Gypsum books of the 5 they have published. I can also put
you in touch with the people who have put these pamphlet out, as they went

Dear Listers,
In response to my recent appeal for a new list administrator, I received letters from several subscribers. "Thank you" to everyone who expressed an interest. A well-qualified volunteer has stepped forward, so I'm pleased to announce that the list has been transferred to Terri Sturgill.
Terri lives in Florida but has Ottawa County roots that go back to the early 1800s. Her extended family still resides in the Elmore area. Terri is a re-activated volunteer for RootsWeb, having administered an

I'd like to thank Scott for introducing me [as new administrator] to the Ottawa list.
It is my hope that you will not even notice there's been a change, except for a different email address.
As with a lot of us into genealogy, I am addicted to it, continually seeking new information about my family and the area they've lived in.
I operate in the "pass it on" method of genealogy. In the years I've been growing my family tree, many people on MANY lists have helped me o
Hi Ottawa County researchers,
My ancestors of Ottawa County are as follows:
Henry HYDE (1785-1866) and his wife Sarah HILL (1787-1830) and their
children.
Jacob BROWN (1807-1886) and his wife Harriet HYDE (1808-1852) and
children.
The HYDEs were original settlers on Put-In-Bay (1818), and later lived on
Catawba Island, and then Portage Township. The BROWNs were also in
Portage Township by 1830 - leaving there by 1854 for Michigan.
Also in the area were Nathan LAWRENCE (1772-about 1840) who married
