If you can not find what you want at the Genealogical and Historical
Library, You can also find Probate records at the Court House across the
street. They also have a Land Record and graves registrations office across
the hall from Probates there in the court house. If you can take a trip
there, it is well worth the time. Both these places are with in a block of
each other located on Court Street.

Hello!
Does anyone know where Pike Hole Prairie is? I am searching for the original Monnett Cemetery (which has been known as Bald Knob Burial Place) on the land that is know as Pike Hole Prairie. Trying to find the original homestead of my Rev. War ancestor Abraham MOnnett. I believe it is near Whissler.
Checked 1844 atlas map, no property listed under this surname. Does anyone have access to tax records that perhaps may reflect a location?
Any tidbits of info would be greatly appreaciated!

Hi:
I'm trying to find out where the probate packets and tax lists are for this area. The time period would be 1800's thru 1890's. Thanks for any help you can give me.

Patsy,
If I need a Pickaway County death certificate I go to the probate court
division of the courthouse in Circleville. I don't know what the health dept.
there has. This is the url:

Is there an individual who has the time to do me a favor?
I'm looking for an obituary for Jacob Ulm. Although he died in Illinois (1 June 1909), he lived in Pickaway County, near Circleville his entire life with the exception of his military service during the Civil War.
The Chillicothe and Ross County newspapers have already been checked to no avail.
Thanks, Jim
I believe the tax lists at the Pickaway Co. Gen Library are hte real estate
tax lists. The "County Levies" (I think they are called), i.e. personal
property tax lists, are housed at the Ohio Historical Society in Columbus.
I was able to find my ancestor, Stephen Duchman, listed in 1818-1825, and I
had not been able to find either him or his brother, John Dughman, anywhere
else, not even in the 1820 census. Even now that I know for sure which
township, I still cannot find them in 1820 census. It's well w

Is it true that death records in Pickaway County, dated December 1908-1932 are located in the Probate Court and not the Health Department.

While in Circleville a couple weeks ago, I did not have time to do many of
the things I had planned.
One of those things looking at burials in Asbury Cemetery near Ashville. Is
this Cemetery still in existence?? I asked several older Ashville residents
about it's location, (As shown on the map) and they had never heard of it.
If someone has a copy of the readings of this cemetery, I would appreciate a
lookup.

Monica,
I'm not sure this will help much because you may already know of it, but I
did a search on dogpile for "Pike Hole Prairie" and found a website about
the Monnett family at
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~mdmalone/monnett.htm
It says Pike Hole Prairie was in Ross County.
The GNIS site didn't turn up any Pike Holes in OH.

It may be I did not type in the complete address.

If this doesn't work, go to the main page at

and search for poorhouses by state.
It is an interesting site and if anyone has information on the Poorhouse in
Circleville, I would appreciate it.

Is there a truly knowledgeable person available at a reasonable rate, to
research deeds in Pickaway County.
I visited there on Friday and I came away more confused then when I started.
My time there is always a factor, not to mention books which weigh almost as
much as I do on top shelves.
Please contact me.

I've just returned from a visit to Pickaway County and have also been in contact with them by mail. All vital records are kept in the Probate Court of Common Pleas.
They aren't online. Therefore all contact has to be via mail or possibly telephone.
The Genealogical Society may have copied some of these records. Their hours and mine weren't compatible when I was there.
Birth and Death Registers don't begin until 1867 and certificates weren't issued until 1908 when the state mandated it. The Register
Monica,
What a stroke of luck - I just found an article in Pickaway Places-Pickaway
People at Ohio Genealogical Society on Elizabeth Monnett and Micah Saylor.
Per article, Elizabeth was d/o Abraham and Ann Hillary Monnett.
Elizabeth married Micah Saylor and their daughter, Ann (Nancy), married Peter
Warren which is one of my lines and the reason I copied the page.
I'll be glad to scan the page and email to you. The first paragraph is the
only part that refers to Abraham and I quote: "Elizabeth Mo

Is there an individual who can check to see if there are any land transactions by Jacob Ulm in the 1860-70 time frame? I believe he owned land for a while, but haven't been able to determine if he lost it during the Civil War due to confiscation for unpaid taxes and it was sold at Sheriff's Sale, or if he sold it to someone else because he was physically unable to farm after his discharge.
Thanks, Jim
