1. [OKGEN-L] OK Newspaper Obituaries [1]
Good morning I have uploaded a letter from the Oklahoma Historical Society newspaper department, Scott Dowell, Supvr., which gives us a better understanding about what might be found in the old OK newspapers archived there, along with a form you can print out for use in requesting a newspaper look-up. Located at http://www.rootsweb.com/~okbits/index.htm Click on "Requesting Obits" There is also a link there to a site that list Oklahoma Newspapers published in Oklahoma with the years they were published. 2. Re: [OKGEN-L] WATCH OUT FOR THE WEATHER [1]
Yep, it sure is headed your way. We had 10 degrees yesterday, and about 4-5 inches of snow in our backyard, but we live directly below Wickiup mountain, and then this am, it was freezing. Down into the single digits with I don't know what kind of wind chill factor, but it was darn cold. Happy Holidays, havn't had a white christmas in years, sure looking forward to this one. 3. [OKGEN-L] How to make Fruit Cake Edible [1]
Ever wonder why most of us enjoy fruitcake jokes more than fruitcake itself? The following is NOT a joke. How many of you have eaten authentic, well-aged fruitcake like Grandmother used to make? It's next to impossible to even find candied fruits on the grocery shelves until well after fruit-cake baking season -- and I'm NOT going to suggest baking your own fruitcake this late in the year. But you may get one of those dreaded commercial concoctions as a gift. Wouldn't you like to do something other

6. [OKGEN-L] State Cemetery in Taft [1]
Lena:Even though you wrote to me in private I am going to post my response to the list because I may need some help with the answer. You asked about a state cemetery in Taft, Oklahoma. I don't know of any such place. Maybe. Taft is a town that was founded by Black citizens and is still today pretty much a Black town. For the longest time, during the times when we had segregation, there was a Black children's home at Taft, with the white children's home in Wittaker and other places. For a short time, a
7. Re: [OKGEN-L] T and the situation [1]
Oh Ellen, Never believe that you might have done the wrong thing. You did what was best for her at the time. I also wonder what if I had done this. I often have blamed myself for paying all our bills early ... what if I hadn't. What if I hadn't told my Mom to do what she felt she wanted to and told her that I loved her and wanted her to stay here with me in California. No, Ellen, we cannot do justice to ourselves for second guessing our decisions and actions. We trust in God that He will guide us and

12. [OKGEN-L] YOUNGBLOOD...Roxie [1]
You just did. Just tell us a little more, first names, what county helps, birth and death dates are good, and of course my favorite, What cemetery they are buried in. You're off to a good start. BIG SUGGESTION Put your SURNAME in upper case in the subject box. It sure helps to catch the eye of those that can help. Sorry, I can't help with YOUNGBLOODs. Hi! I would love the recipe. I'm collecting all these recipes, and planning to experiment by using different meat with them, scince I can't get the original. 16. [OKGEN-L] Life's Trials [1]
Tina, I imagine you feel a great disappointment at the moment, but as I told you earlier it took John Kennedy 5 tries before he passed his bar exams. It cannot be easy to take care of a family and try to study at the same time. Perhaps this break is what you need to relieve the stress and pressure you have be under. Enjoy the holidays and take care of yourself and you will be ready to hit it again at a later time. A failure you are not. All of us have not meet an expectation at some point in our life, but

18. [OKGEN-L] Fwd: Euroenglish Implimentation [1]
PERFECT COMMUNICATION THROUGH TECHNOLOGY, SERVICE, AND EDUCATION The European Commission on the European Unification (EU) just announced an agreement whereby English will be the official language of the EU rather than German, which was the other possibility. As part of the negotiations, Her Majesty's government conceded that English spelling had some room for improvement and has accepted a five-year phase-in plan that would be known as "EuroEnglish." In the first year, "s" will replace the soft "c." Sertai

Jack, did you happen to notice the time listed on that message? Are you getting your other mail, too? It could be that someone just sent it once but that it is getting automatically repeated. That is what happens sometimes with my mail. If it is a large one, with a lot of names, it could be just jammed. I don't know if it could be repeating the number of times the names on it or not, but check the time and see if it really IS the time listed. T. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Have an
20. [OKGEN-L] Derek-- still looking for him [1]
Everyone please keep Derek in your prayers. I just heard on our local news that they are still looking for him. His mother seems to think he had learned some survival skills that might help him but time moves so fast in a situation like this and each moment is critical. My son used to be on a search and rescue team in southern Oregon and he said the worst time is when they call the search off. He used to say as long as we are still searching there is still hope. We should pray for these searchers too becaus

22. [OKGEN-L] Prayers [1]
Thank you to all of those who have been praying for me during the holidays. I can honestly say I haven't had to much time to spend dwelling on the fact that Mama wasn't here this Christmas. I have spent part of the last three days sitting with my Dad in the hospital. He is in a semi-coma and can't speak or even blink his eyes. While in the rehab center, to supposedly teach him to walk again after surgery, they managed to starve him instead. He is badly dehydrated, with a very high sodium level and the do
