2. [OKLEFLORE] 1900 Indian Territory Census [1]
Would the Choctaw Nation census include the area that was Pushmataha County? Am looking for Birdsong family that I'm not able to find in Texas or Oklahoma in 1900....he was in Kiamachi Township in 1910. Looking for F.M. Birdsong and son Marion Flemuel Birdsong in 1900...F.M. should be 56 b. TN and son M.F. would have been 11 b. TX in 1900. I have access to Heritage Quest but using the Birdsong name in 1900 index does not bring him up, so do not know if abstractor spelled it different or what. Also in t

I too am interested in information for this time period. I have found marriages of my gggrandfather and his brother in 1892 Indian territory but would be interested in finding census information for this time period for non-indians. 5. [OKLEFLORE] 1890 Census [1]
Was there any type of head counting (census) around 1890 in LeFlore or surrounding counties? How does one search the area for non-indian ancestors in the area during this time frame? Any information most greatly appreciated. Jerry Forman Berkeley, CA
6. [OKLEFLORE] Re: OKLEFLOR-D Digest V03 #184 [1]
Hi Bart, My great granduncle, John Preston PURKHISER and his second wife Vianna (Viney) were living in LeFlore county between 188 - 1895. Two of their children were born in Talihini in 1892 and 1899 respectively. Both had previous spouses and there were around 8 children with them in all. John Purkhiser worked in the lumber mill business and since the area had mountains it makes sense they were there? Coincidentally, my own FORMAN Family lived in LeFlore County as well (Panama and Bokoshe) betwee
7. Re: [OKLEFLORE] 1890 Census [1]
Yes OK had an 1890 census...there is also a census 1860 Indian Lands West of AR....which would be OK. CensusView.org has both of them. Good luck in your search! Kathy
8. Re: [OKLEFLORE] 1890 Census [1]
Okay I already knew that statehood was not until 1907. The question is whether a census was done in 1890 or 1900 in Indian Territory and if these would have included non-Indians. Might some whites have been included in Arkansas even though they actually lived in Indian Territory? 9. Re: [OKLEFLORE] 1890 Census [1]
When you are doing research for LeFlore County for the 1890 and 1900 census, you need to search in Indian Territory for the census. Oklahoma was not a state at this time. If you have a subscription to www.ancestry.com you can get the 1900 census of "Indian Territory", "Choctaw Nation" and then go to the town. The 1900 census is images only and can be time consuming of both Indian and non-Indian residents. The 1890 census is not available for Oklahoma/Indian Territory. However, someone told me that the National Archives have the census. I, too. am interested in those censuses. My grandparents, J. A. and Leona Balentine came to Indian Territory from Wayne Co., TN, before going on to Arkansas. But I have never been able to find out where in Indian Territory they were. What areas or countries did "Indian Territory" cover, anyway? Does anyone know anything about the Indian trail that went around Poteau Mountain? Did Whites use this trail to come into Arkansas? If not, at what point did they enter Arkansas? ----- Original Message ----- Fr

For the LeFlore Co. 1900 census they are under the Choctaw Nation Indian Territory. --- Ancestry.com and Genealogy.com has the 1900 census and one maybe both have a name index for this year. If you have a name I might can look it up for you. 18. Re: [OKLEFLORE] 1890 Census [1]
yes there was a census done, you have to look in "whites in IT" I think you might find that information in the Muskogee Historical Society, perhaps even in the Leflore Historical Society, or in the Oklahoma Historical Society. That would be in Oklahoma City, all are on the net if you go to google and type in the town you are looking in. Hope this helps a bit.
