There are quite a few O'Learys in the town of Inchigeelah. I believe there
was an O'Leary reunion there a year or two ago.

I was interested in the mention of O'Leary's who emigrated from Kerry in the
1840s -- mine were apparently from Ardfert, left about 1848 and arrived in New
Orleans in November 1849. These included Julia O'Leary, who married Timothy
McCarthy in Ardfert in 1839 and her brother or brother in law, Daniel O'Leary
Sr. married to Catherine Mulquinn. Julia and Timothy were a second marriage;
she was married before to Denis O'Leary and they had one or more children, at
least daughter Johanna. They ended up in

was John OLeary. He was a farmer in Putnam Valley,
and born March 1833 in Ireland (county ??). Died
February 21, 1907 in Putnam Valley. John OLeary
father and mother were James and Mary OLeary. I dont
any info on them.

Hi Rick,
I can tell by your surname that you would not be "eligible" to test for the
O'Leary DNA, as you need to carry the surname. Exceptions could be adoption
and a few other reasons. We are using a firm called Relative Genetics in Utah.
You could visit their site at Relativegenetics.com. We are doing Y
chromosomes, and checking 26 loci. If you additional questions after reading their
stuff, let me know. Do you have any male O'Leary family members who could supply
the DNA?

I am interested in finding ancestors of Cornelius O'Leary who was born ca 1891 (possibly Ireland). He joined the Navy during the early 1900s as a stoker on HMS Devonshire. He married Annie Vickers in 1915 at Kensington. His father was Denis (who had died by 1916). There is a possibility that they originated from County Cork.
If anyone can help I would be very pleased to hear from them.

Just a reminder that the O'Leary DNA project is still open for those hitting
a brick wall and trying to identify common ancestors. The participation has
been slow, 3 family lines completed and 2 more currently being tested. We have
been able to show that the three tested have no common ancestor. These were
families that had a Cork homeland, immigrated to Wales in the early 1800's,
then scattering to Pennsylvania, Indiana and England. While we still call each
other cousins, a bond forged while shar
Dear Bonnie:
I am descended from the O'Leary's through my Paternal Grandmother. I
have had an 12 gene Y DNA done on Family Tree. com for the Miles Family.
Is the DNA testing for 12 or the the mitochondrial DNA including maternal
lines that you are doing? Are you doing it on Family Tree.com or where? I
would consider extending my DNA to the more extensive mtDNA if I could tie
it in with your study. I am interested in my O;Leary clan who emmigrated
from Co. Kerry c. 1840's.
Thanks, Rick Miles

I think my O'Learys were from Cork, but much earlier. Julia O'leary was
born about 1826, the daughter of Arthur O'Leary. She came to the United
States in 1850, later settled in Indiana.

Greetings to all;
I am trying to do research on the O'Leary side of my family. What information I have is as follows:
John OLeary b. abt 1847 Ireland
m. 7 Oct. 1883 Castlebridge, Wexford, Ireland
-----------------------------
father: Nicholas Leary

Wife: Catherine Pender b. 29 Sep. 1850 Castlebridge, Wexford, Ireland
aka: Catherine Pendergast d. 30 Jan. 1933 Castlebridge, Wexford, Ireland buried: Saunderscourt Cemetery

Here's an idea. It worked for me. Try addressing a letter to :
Catholic Church
Castlebridge,
County Wexford
Ireland
I was looking for my O'Leary's and I wrote the same thing, but to
Doon
County Limerick
Ireland
I managed to find members of my great grandfather's family, (his father and
grandfather's families). I am still wondering where they originally came from
before Doon, Co. Limerick. Give them all your info and maybe they can make a
match in Castlebridge. I am assuming the family may be Roman C
Hi Bonnie,
I am interested in the O'Leary DNA testing. Where and how do I go about it?
Thanks
PS I talked to you once before on the email. I believe we are descendants of
the O'Leary's around Inchigelia area in Cork. The same area as Don's.
Carol out in Napa, CA.
Further to my previous message, I now know that Cornelius O'Leary was born 14 Jun 1891 in Bantry, County Cork and was a Stoker in the Royal Navy between 1916 and 1918 serving on HMS Devonshire. It is possible he remained in the USA in 1918. He is also related to the family of Michael J O'Leary who won the VC in the First World War.
If anyone has any information on the ancestors of Michael O'Leary or Cornelius, I would be very grateful.
