Laura,
In "A History of the Silverton Country" by Down, page 80, it states that Nimrod
Jenkins was born in Green Co. Ohio 1822. His wife was Amanda, daughter of Matthew
Morrison, and he married June 20, 1852 in Marion Co.
Hope this helps,
Cathy

Marion County,
Laura, Your Lewis family was in Polk County? Is Lewisville near Monmouth? Do
you know the Lewis daughter's name or her parents? I am researching a Lewis
family, living in Lewis* (either burg or ville) in Marion County near
Silverton. My Lewis' are Samuel and America, they had at least one daughter and
her name was Sarah Ella Lewis. If it is not the same family there is a great
possiblity that they are related. Could her father have been William or John?
William had a DLC in Polk County.

Hi June
Sorry this has been sitting in my mailbox for so long. I just recently made
a connection on my Allens and I checked out the gedcom that I was sent.
Sorry but I don't see any matches on these particular names and I don't find
a Thomas Issac Bowman either. Wish I could find a connection.

Kathy,
I found a lot of Matheny's in the BLM land records on line.
http://www.glorecords.blm.gov/search/ResultsList.ASP?index=1&qryid=71678.2
or
http://www.glorecords.blm.gov
Use HOME to start over and the SEARCH is at the very bottom of the page.
Keep posting! Do you know what county they were in before OR?
Post to those counties, people will find you. I can do a Census lookup
electronically if you'd like.
Check out the Oregon Archives, there is a searchable database or write for
records.

Rick,
I imagine there are many ways to get records, but the newspapers from the
exact period had many references to those imprisoned. Newspapers can be
ordered on "interlibrary" loan.
You might use the reference book, Newspapers on Microfiche as a start.
