Hello to all,
My husband & I are planning a short weekend trip to the Deschutes river in
Oregon in a couple weeks. Does anyone have any advise on where would be a
good place to go or what we should see while there?, or where a good place to
stay might be? We're open as far as camping areas, we would prefer to camp
out, but if the weather is wet, we'd like to know of a good place to stay
indoors too.
All I know is my GG Grandfather, Charles Cyrus Olney was born near the
Deschutes in Wasco, & even th
I am researching my ggggrandfather, William McKinney, who with his son, William J. and his wife, Flora, and their children, left Lecompton, Douglas Co., Kansas for Silverton, Marion Co., Oregon. The time is between 1875 and 1880 when they appeared in the respective censuses of each place.
I wonder if there might be others who travelled from Kansas to Oregon about that time and might be able to suggest where to search on-line for more details on this route.
Thanks for any help you might have.
Regards,

Caroline,
If the CLARKE listed on the microfilm happens to be Dr. Andrew Clarke, I
would be interrested in knowing whatever information is there.
Thanks for the offer!

I believe the only library in Portland that carries the Oregon on microfilm
is the main library down town Portland. It is very handy to the max line.

The Oregon Death Index is available on microfiche at the:
- Multnomah Co. Library (as in the Oregon Marriage Index),
- Genealogical Forum of Oregon library in Portland,
- Gresham Family History Center, and
- Lake Oswego Public Library.
I'm sure the index is available at a number of other libraries but I have
seen it at these locations.
Some libraries may have more complete copies than others so it is always
good to call ahead.
Hope this helps.
Diane
Does anyone know where Rev NOTT was from? I'm curious if he's related to my

Greetings,
There is a town in Marion County, named "Gates". On the map it appears to be
just down the road from Mill City, where my dad was born. Does anyone have
any history on this town? In my family, there is a story that it was named
after my great grandfathers partner in a lumber mill who was named Gates
Cochran.

There was a reference on the ORCLACKA-ORMARION list which I seem to have
deleted. La Velle, do you have any idea where Rev. NOTT's ancestors entered
the U.S.? Probably not a direct relative to my tribe, as they were KNOTT
and KNOTTS. But who knows? Bob K

The downtown library does have all this on microfilm and also many other
papers as well., they have a huge file of index cards from a-z that someone
has taken the time to go through and any name or subject in the paper is in
that file!

I currently have access to a microfilm of the Journals which my ancestor
Thomas Lowe kept during his time at Fort Vancouver from 1843 to 1851.
So far I have come across passing references to a number of Oregon settlers
in the years 1844-45, mostly in the Willamette Falls (now Oregon City) area.
Not all of these were American. Judging by the names, some were French
Canadian, & some were ex HBC employees.
The names are listed below. If anyone has an interest in any of them please
e-mail me off list as soon

Hi Caroline
I live in the city limits of Milwaukie, OR. It is approximately 5 miles
north of Oregon City. I have lived in the area for many, many years. I have
never heard of any 3/4 associated w/land claims except it might be "3/4" of a
section post of some knid. We had a piece of land w/a 1/4 post designation.

Ephraim NOTT performed several marriages in Marion County, OR. My thought is
that someone may have a marriage photo that would include Rev. Nott. Here
are the documented marriages that Rev. Nott performed:
Levy JOHNSON & Mary Jane SMITH, 22 Feb 1874
Byron DENNY & Alice ENGLISH, 16 Jan 1887
R. E. ELLIS & Matilda A. GARBE, 10 Dec 1891
Andrew C. HANSON & Annie M. CHRISTENSEN, 29 Dec 1894
William L. WHITLOCK & Anna R. HAYRE, 10 Dec 1895
Benjamin LATOURELL & Maude Alice CRUM, 14 Oct 1897

Bob, where did you see a reference to Rev Nott? One of my ancestors is
refered to as Rev Nott in Marion County records. His name is Ephriam Nott.
He was born and married in Illinois. The majority of his children were born
in Illinois. Marriage records show him in Pike County, Ill. He came to
Oregon after 1871. His daughter Tempa was born at Union Hill, Marion,
Oregon.
