connection to an O'Rear family in Carroll Co., GA in the 1860s. Does
anyone have information on this line?

Does anyone out there know a lady from Walker Co AL named Elizabeth Sherer? I
have checked with Willie Barton and the public library in Jasper, but no one can
help me. She was into genealogy and I believe she might have known about J.
Henry O'Rear who died 16 Feb 1922. If anyone knows Elizabeth please let me
know. It seems like my last hope is to call each Sherer in the Jasper phone
book.

Hello everyone, there seems to be some problems with the new
archive system passwords. I had thought of contacting the person
who is working on this project but since he is so busy I didn't
want to bother him. The latest news is that there will be no
passwords in the future. For now you can still access the archives
via e-mail. Here's how it works: (Please read carefully, you will

Donna,
While at the library in the past I looked at some microfilm records for Hancock
County, GA. In the Index to Deeds and Mortgages John O'Rear is shown as having
bought land from Sherwood Wise in 1799. This index also showed that John sold
land to Jesse Brantley in 1800. This is the same info you posted earlier.
Listed in the 1802 Tax Return for Hancock County are:
Daniel O'Rear
Ben O'Rear
John O'Rear, Sr.
William O'Rear
The earliest date I have for John O'Rear in Hancock County is 1796
