Someone about a month or so ago was looking for a Brittain. Ryan, May well be, B.J. Pengra and family were established almost immedately after 1853 in the Springield area. B.J. (Bynon Johns) PENGRA established the 1st republican paper called the Oregon State Journal, was a Presidential elector for Lincolns election, was surveyor general during the Lincoln administration. The 41st Annual Reunion of the GERKING Family Organization will be held Sunday, August 6, 2000, at Blue Lake Park in Portland, Oregon. 12. Misc Burials Wasco County, OR [1]
Daphne Hon Ramsey's cemetery records for Wasco County include these: Sarah Sutton, wife of John Sutton died on Sept 26, 1854 "at the foot of the mountains near Tygh Valley." She kept a diary of the family's wagon trip west from Cass County, IL. It stopped August 15, 1854 in the Grand Ronde area where she became ill with Mountain Fever. A note written at the end of the diary by a relative gives this information, plus the fact that she left four helpless children, the youngest being four years old. Family

Hi list, Would anyone know who to contact about Columbia River Tugboat pilots? My great uncle, Capt Will Hall worked on the Columbia River. I'm not sure how to get started on this. He must have lived close to port. He might have lived in Portland. I know there was a write up about him in a Yakima-Washington paper between 1950 - 1955. He was born 1886, SF and died about 1960. 19. Amos in Sherman County [1]
Joseph S. Amos was born Westmoreland, N.B. about 1864. He was in Sherman County, Oregon by January 1895 when he married Jessie McDonald there. He lived at Rufus, on the Columbia River, where he had a store and was a blacksmith. The Observer reported that the steamer, Columbia, went aground and wrecked at a great loss to the Amos Bros. of Rufus. By 1902 J.S. Amos was ill and recovering. I live in the Lowell area, about 10 min from PLeasant Hill. This has been a horrible accident. I did not know Katie, but know several people who did. I can cut out all the articles in the past three days about her and mail them with the obit if you will send me your snail mail privately. It has been a tradgedy. Dear List, I am in need of a tremendous favor. I understand Oregon has a death index. Could somebody look up the death of my great uncle? William Hall born 1886 San Francisco. Died possibly Astoria, Oregon late 50's or eary 60's. Parents Charles F Hall and Julia Herrington Mars. I'm sorry that this is all the info I have. The 1906 earthquake destroyed alot of records.
