Have you tried the Oregon Archives? Once you find where your Grandmother
died, put out a request for her obituary. I have found the best information
this way to break down those brickwalls.

Ryan,
May well be, B.J. Pengra and family were established almost immedately
after 1853 in the Springield area.
B.J. (Bynon Johns) PENGRA established the 1st republican paper called the
Oregon State Journal, was a Presidential elector for Lincolns election, was
surveyor general during the Lincoln administration.
According to something else I've read B.J. PENGRA wrote for the People's

Daphne Hon Ramsey's cemetery records for Wasco County include these:

It stopped August 15, 1854 in the Grand Ronde area where she became ill with Mountain Fever. A note written at the end of the diary by a relative gives this information, plus the fact that she left four helpless children, the youngest being four years old. Family

Hi list,
Would anyone know who to contact about Columbia River Tugboat pilots? My
great uncle,
Capt Will Hall worked on the Columbia River. I'm not sure how to get
started on this. He must have lived close to port. He might have lived
in Portland. I know there was a write up about him in a
Yakima-Washington paper between 1950 - 1955. He was born 1886, SF and
died about 1960. I believe Doris Tibbets and Bill Tibbets were related
to him. I've been in touch with the Mariner's List and havent't been
able to l
Joseph S. Amos was born Westmoreland, N.B. about 1864. He was in Sherman County, Oregon by January 1895 when he married Jessie McDonald there. He lived at Rufus, on the Columbia River, where he had a store and was a blacksmith. The Observer reported that the steamer, Columbia, went aground and wrecked at a great loss to the Amos Bros. of Rufus. By 1902 J.S. Amos was ill and recovering. He died in Tuscon, AZ in 1904 at age 39, and was buried at Wasco, OR in Sherman County.

mail them with the obit if you will send me your snail mail privately. It
has been a tradgedy. I would bet that there will be a rather hefty
article in the Springfield news on Wed as well. Send me your mail, and I

Dear List,
I am in need of a tremendous favor. I understand Oregon has a death
index. Could somebody look up the death of my great uncle?
William Hall born 1886 San Francisco. Died possibly Astoria, Oregon late
50's or eary 60's. Parents Charles F Hall and Julia Herrington Mars.
I'm sorry that this is all the info I have. The 1906 earthquake
destroyed alot of records. Will Hall was also a tugboat pilot on the
Columbia River for many yrs.
Thank you for the assistance. I appreciate any info.

She included a list made in 1936 by George O. Houser, Editor of the Wheatland newspaper. Mrs. Frank Wojcik made additions and corrections in the bulletins of this time period. Worth a trip to
