To the List:
I have had several requests to republish the class schedule and location for Barbara Clark's Family History classes -- so -- here it is:

I want to thank you all for your help. Yes, I found my family. I found some
gems, some new information. Unfortunately, my father and my step-mother,
both born out-of-state were not listed. I will have to search further.
Some tips: My mother and step-father were listed under "evidence" not
"delayed birth".
My mother was listed not under "McKey" or "Mckey", but under "Mc Key". So
widen your search.

Just a reminder that the Irish Interest Group will meet on Saturday, 17 January at 1pm in the Higgins Room -- and boy....do we have a treat for everyone. Barbara Clark who has taught for the past 17 years will present "Crossing the Ocean" that pertains particularly to Ireland. And from personal experience, I know she has some wonderful stories to tell.
"May the road rise up to meet you" and........may that road lead to the GFO on Saturday ;-)
Hope to see all Irish researchers on Saturday at 1pm in the H
I noticed the mention of delayed birth certificates. Are they listed
separately? For someone born in 1900, are they listed on a state index or
do I have to check a county where they may have applied?
My father is not listed in Missouri, the state he was born in (actually they
were very un-helpful, the girl at the window in Jefferson City could have
cared less) but I would think he must have had a delayed certificate to get
Social Security. I have never tried in Oregon, where he lived.

One of these days I'll learn to type.....Earlier today I sent a schedule for Barbara Clark's classes and I said:

Please correct my original class schedule.
During the Irish Interest Group meeting this past Saturday, a lady asked if I knew of a planned trip/tour to Belfast, in the North of Ireland. I was not aware of any, but told her I would post a query to the GFO list. If you know of any, please let me know. Thanks.

Hi Jane,
<>
You have had some very good answers from Connie, Stan & Janice, but I can add
a little bit to this discussion.
Some delayed birth registrations were handled directly with Vital Stats if
the individual had adequate proof, or they could be handled thru the court in
the county where they lived. This was done partic

In going through the Oregon death index I can fill in a few blanks
for you. All of these should checked to be sure they are really the
right people by getting copies of there death certs. 1903-1953 are
found at the Oregon State Archives for the cost of copying them. Or
if you are out of state get back to me on any of these you need.

Do you know where YOUR family was when Lewis and Clark headed up the Missouri River in 1804? A bad case of "cabin fever" got me thinking about it today....I never really had before. Do you think that your ancestors even knew about their expedition....and did they even care?
My Brown, Earle and Hooker families in Worcester Co., MA would have known about it and discussed it. My Vance, Howard and Miller families in SW Virginia were busy raising their families on the frontier and I doubt that they ever lear

Dave,
That is easy They are indexed at the main Portland library, also the
index has been micro filmed and I think there is a copy at the Forum.
I have one here so will go and look and see if I can find any one of
that name listed and get back to you. Of

Thanks for the input. All of the folks on this list would be
surprised how many of these stories of dumped records we have heard.
Dan,

suggestions: you need to try and find her in the 1920
census, which unfortunately for Heritage Quest users,
is not yet indexed.
There is a George Washington Blank who dies in March
1920 in Malheur county, and this would probably make
his wife a widow on a death certificate which is what
it seems like to have. If it is, then obviously it
won't give you any more information.
Ther is an Ellis M. McKnight who was born 23 Dec 1890
and died 29 March 1978 in Multnomah County, his wife

Polly,
Do you have the date of death of George Washington Blank?
In the Oregon Death Index there is a George Washington Blank died 16 Mar 1920 in Malheur County. There is also a George W. Blank who died in Baker County, 20 Jun 1945, but I doubt that he is the correct one.
Did any of the children live in Malheur County?

Irene,
I just have to add my 2 cents worth. I have used 2 very different digital
cameras to adequately record; books, deeds, buildings, family photos, farm
sites, headstones, and 1/3 of the pictures of Ireland (that we saw).
My first digital camera is an Epson PhotoPC 700, less than 1 megapixel. I
copied all the family photographs in my in-laws house with it and could print
very adequate 5 x 7 pictures from the files with a good printer.
I can read the digital pages of the KELLER genealogy I copied in the
