thanks for the info, I also was born in klamath Falls in 1943. I am not sure
what the name of the hospital was though. I have found a great post card on
ebay of the Hillside Hospital taken in the early 1940's thought if that was
the only hospital in KF in the 1940's I would buy it. Now I have found that
there was also a klamath Valley hospital. I will have to investigate some more.

TWO KILLED AT RAILROAD CROSSING NEAR LAKEVIEW
When a Chevrolet Sedan occupied by a Mr. Miller, Mr. Hastings and Tome
Mulkey and two women attempted to beat the train at the crossing going west
from Lakeview on the Klamath Falls highway. This they failed to do and both
Miller and Hastings, who were riding in the front seat of the car, were

Eddie Cook, a linotype operator, formerly of Alturas but now in prison at
San Quentin, after being convicted of forgery was found to have a former
criminal record. Cook was arrested under the name John E. Choate on July 17,
1917. He was again arrested on April 4th, 1932 at San Antonio, Texas and
held for investigation at that place. 3 weeks ago he was arrested by Sheriff

Mary Ann Ruth was born in Paradise, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania on March
27, 1856, where she continued to live until December 17th, 1873, when she
married, D. S. Musselman, the marriage taking place in the old Chique Creek
Church. To this union five children were born two of whom died. Those still

While on their way fishing this morning, while just this side of Owl Creek,
Willie Dollarhide, accompanied by his sister, Theta and Miss Gloria Warren
had the misfortune of having their car turn over.
It seems that Willie was driving at a lively clip, struck a chuckhole in the
road, which threw the machine to one side, causing it to sidewise and
finally turn over.

Frank C. Alexander returned from Oakland, Cal., where he has been working in
the interest of the Oakland Tribune. Mr. Alexander has been down there all
winter and reports having done well. He is now getting ready for his

Milton M. Garrett passed away in Eureka, California February 10th, 1935, at
the age of 69 years, 5 months and 8 days. An operation for stomach trouble
was performed on January 24th and improvement was made till the eighth day
when complications arose.

OREGON CONVICT "STARES ME RIGHT IN THE FACE," OVIE NIELSEN SAYS
ALTURAS Photographs of Pete Sullivan, serving a life term in the Salem,
Oregon, state prison, for a murder committed in Klamath County in 1926, has
been recognized by various observers as the bank robber, who, single-handed,
stuck up the Alturas branch of the Bank of America at noon on December the
14th.

Dan Craig, Jr., the genial clerk at the D. S. Denehy Companys store, while
performing the task that no doubt his wife should have been doing (splitting
wood), had the misfortune of having the ax slip off of a piece of wood and
badly lacerating the forefinger of his left hand. Dan is now making the

SHERIFF SHARP TAKES CONVICTED MAN TO SAN QUENTIN
Sheriff John C. Sharp returned Thursday from San Quentin, where he
accompanied john J. Wiley, convicted of cattle theft. Probation Wednesday
had been denied Wiley following an extended hearing before the Modoc County
probation commission. Judge F. M. Jamison had sentenced him to an
indeterminate term in San Quentin of from one to fourteen

HARRY WARD AND BOB SMITH IN REDDING HOSPITAL
As we go to press we learn that Supervisor H. G. Ward and County Clerk L. S.
Smith were seriously injured in an auto wreck near Redding. Both are now in
the Redding Hospital.

I believe that Hillside Hospital is now a church. It is still a beautiful
building.

AGED FORT BIDWELL INDIAN WOMAN PASSES
Mary Northrup, aged Indian woman of Fort Bidwell, passed to the "happy
Hunting Grounds", one day last week and was laid to rest in the Bidwell
Indian cemetery. Seventy-nine "summer shines and winter snows" had passed
over her head and during that period she recalled many experiences of the
life of the early days of the Modoc Indians.(1:3)
