Old Maps of Oregon can be viewed at the Oregon State
Archives building on Summer St in Salem. They have an
Atlas of Marion county that defines Donation Land Claims.
They have them for several years. If you are not in or
near Salem, a large public library may have these maps
also.

May I also suggest that if you are working families in the Stayton, Santiam
Canyon or Jefferson, OR areas of Marion County, you look through some of the
obituaries posted to the Linn County website. Some of these obituaries list
relatives living in those areas and some of the obituaries are from Marion
County but had relatives in Linn County so the obituaries were issued in
Linn County papers.

I was at the Oregon State Archives today, looked thru a listing of
cemeteries and couldn't find a Miller Cemetary. I do know of Stepp Cemetary
which is owned by the Miller Bros., Could this be the same one?

Could you tell me where or how you obtained this book. My parents used to
live in Scotts Mills where my mother taught school and I would like to find
out more about the history of the area. Thank you.

Hi,
In the late 1800s Jerome Grier bought interest in a Mill located near
present day North Santiam. If I am reading the document correctly it was
called McMillans Sawmill. Anyone have any info. on it. Photos, history,
etc. Does anyone know how long it existed?
Thanks

There is an Elmira about 20 miles west of Eugene and a Gervais about 20
miles north of Salem.

Hello,
I thank you for the timely reply. I have obtained a copy of your referenced
Scotts Mills History 1846-1919.
I was never close to my father George Brooks Van Arnam b. Silverton 1906 d.
Anchorage 1995 and his family. Am therefore searching for any piece of
information to put the Van Arnam and Lawrence family picture together.
Again many thanks for your kind assistance.

Hi
Griers arrived in Marion Co. about 1857 or so and lived there until at
least 1930. Most lived in Stayton area. Is anyone actively researching the
name? Also, to you long time residents (Dan), are there any Griers still
residing in the area?
Thanks
Brian Grier
Canyon people call residents of Stayton, Sublimity, and Scio "flatlanders"
so I don't think we are included. My own definition would be towns that are
in higher elevation beginning with Mehama and Lyons, Mill City, Gates,
Idanha and Detroit.

Hi:
Where is Almira or Elmyra, Oregon. There is a church there named Immaculate
Heart that I am interested in. Also, is Jarvis or Garvis, the correct
spelling?

Help,
I remember seeing a site that not only listed the cemeteries in Marion Co.
but also listed the names of those buried there. I can't seem to find it
now. Can anyone help my failing memory?
Thanks
Brian
Thanks Connie!
I have had a response stating that my great grandfather is in the books of
which we speak under the name Theodore Walter Kloesener, godfather was
Fridolin Roth (probably who baby #13 was named for!). T. Walter was baptized
on April 24 of 1887. The church is in Gervais, named St. Gervase Catholic
Church (?). The person also mentioned B 345, don't know what that stands
for, but may be helpful to you. It is my understanding that Benjamin Thomas
Kloesener, born August 30, 1884 in Gervai

Hello!
Any help with this would be appreciated. I was informed that there was a
